Arthur and his men are denied
the weapons they must have if

facturers have come to the war
production board to plead for
just a few extra months before
going into war production. Some

tails. Some of them argue before
awarding a subcontract. I know
of a case where 26 days were
wasted this way."

Messersmith, new U. S. ambas
sador to Mexico, is not content
with running his post from a
swivel chair and Intends to set
out In the next few weeks to
see the nation first-hand.
In his first press conference
after coming here from his pre
vious ambassadorial assignment
in Cuba, Messersmith said frank
ly that he was an exponent of
travel as a valuable means of
promoting contact and under
standing between peoples and
nations.

the ambassador said, as having

Although he Is a veteran of

1 cups sliced sweet potato
9 cups siloed apples
teaspoon pepper
34 teaspoon nutmeg
4 tablespoons butter, melted
V4 teaspoon salt
It cup dark brown sugar
1 teaspoon crated lemon rind
cup orange Juice
14 eup boiling water
Mix potatoes, apples, salt, pepper
and nutmeg. Pour Into buttered
baking dish and add rest of Ingre
dients. Cover and bake an hour In
moderate oven. Uncover last 10 mln-
utes to brown top.
Cranberry Pineapple Slaw
3-8 cup chopped cranberries
t cup diced pineapple
S cups chopped cabbage
1-9 cup chopped celery -3
tablespoons chopped green
peppers
4 teaspoon salt
(4 teaspoon paprika
1-8 cup salad lresalng
Chill, combine Ingredient
serve.
Butterhorns
1 cake compressed yeast
H eup sugar
8 tablespoons butter
8 tablespoons lard
1 cup milk
8 eggs, beaten
1 teaspoon salt
8 8-8 cups flour
Crumble yeast, add a tablespoon
sugar and let stand 8 minutes. Add
rest of sugar to butter, lard and milk. ;
Heat, cool to lukewarm, pour Into
yeast, add eggs, salt and 8 cups flour.
Beat 8 minutes. SUr la rest of flour
sals thoroughly. Cover with cloth 1
and let stand In room of moderate :
temperature about 4 hours, or until !
the dough doubles. Turn dough onto
floured board. Shape Into balls and
roll each until thin. Cut Into tri
angles about 1 by 8 Inches, roll up
each, beginning at the wide en.
Arrange on greased baking sheets.
Cover with cloth, let rise to double 1
else (sbout 8 hours). Bake 15 min
ute ta moderate oven (880).
