little sleight-of-hand.
All these rolled together mean
camouflage, the hocus-pocus art
of creating illutionj and con
fusing the enemy, especially to
avoid or minimize damage dur
ing air attacKs.
General Motors corporation
has assigned some BO talented
designers, engineers and color
artists, whose peacetime job was
styling sleek passenger cars, to
conduct research on camouflage
and black-out techniques for its
war plants throughout the
country.
They could. If the army
deemed It necessary, transform
humming war plant so that It
would look like a peaceful pas
toral scene or a residential com
munity from the air; make a
.giant gasoline tank seem like a
f rosebush to a pilot seeking a
vital military objective or hide
a railroad siding beneath some
artificial shrubbery.

Expensive? Yes, very, accord
ing to Robert E. Bingam and
Howard E. OXeary of GM's
camouflage and war service sec
tion. "All the research." they said,
"springs from a two-fold objec
tive. First, to confuse the enemy
wherever and however we can:

possible plans for camouflaging
war plaiits, last of which is the
most thorough and most expen
sive. They are:

3-8 cup sliced cheese.
cup milk.
teaspoon pepper.
teaspoon celery salt. - -
teaspoon chopped celery.
teaspoon m In cod onion.
Mix cheese and milk. Heat until
creamy la double boiler. Add rest of
Ingredients. Stir well.
Honey Muffins (6)
cup warm milk.
cup strained honey.
W cups flour.
8 teaspoons baking powder.
teaspoon salt.
1 egg or 9 yolks, beaten.
3 tablespoons fat, melted.
1-8 cup currants or raisins.
Mix milk and honey. Add rest of
Ingredient and mix lightly. Half-fill
greased muffin pans and bake 30 min
utes in moderate oven (350).
. Fmlt Salad
1 package orange flavored gelatin.
I cup boiling water.
M cup orange Juice.
1 tablespoon lemon juice.
Ifc teaspoon salt.
Vi cup cubed grapefruit.
1-8 cup cubed oranges.
cup diced pineapple.
cup broken nuts.
Dissolve gelatin, add Juices and
cool. Pour In rest of ingredients.
Fill mold and chill until stiff.

spread with butter. Bake, covered.
35 minute in mod rate oven. (350).
Spread with rest of Ingredients and
bake 5 minutes, uncovered. Serve
in baking dish.
