Makes Brilliant Film

In these troubled times it is
only natural for us to long (or
'the good old days" when our
biggest worries were, convincing
father that it was really 10
o'clock and not midnight when
we came home last night. It is
just such a chance to lose our
selves in the past that is offered
in the charmingly gay motion
picture, "One Foot In Heaven,"
opening today at the Craterian
theatre.
The picture tells the story of
n American family with its
problems, pathcs and Joy. It is
wistful tale that injects an
atmosphere of nostalgia. The
starring roles are played by
Fredric March who plays the
part of a parson, and Martha
Scott cast as his wife. Their
struggle to get along and win
the understanding of their fel
low townsfolk during the period
of America's ' coming of age'
between the turn of the ctntury
and the end of World war I,
is smoothly told.
Its fine supporting cast in
cludes Beulah Bondi, Gene Lock
hart, Elizabeth Fraser, Harry
Davenport and many more. The
screen play was written from
the book by Hartzell Spence,

Offering local music lovers
their first opportunity in a long
time to dance to the music of an
ace band Gus Arnheim and his
galaxy of stars will appear at the
St. Patrick's day dance at Ori
ental Gardens next Monday
night. He will present a pro
gram of arrangements and songs
they have played the past year.
The celebrated leader has com
piled in catalog form the thous
ands of requests he has received
from all over the country, and
his appearance here will consist
only of an all-request program.

Hollywood's three most thrill
ing personalities, Betty Grable.
Victor Mature and Carole Lan
dis, have the three leading roles
in one of the most suspenseful
murder mysteries ever filmed,
"I Wake Up Screaming," which
opens for today and tomorrow
only at the Rialto theatre.
Carole, despite her sister
Betty's protests, agrees to let
herself be glamorized by Ma
ture, a promoter, Alan Mow
bray, a well-known actor, and
Allyn Joslyn, a leading column
ist. After she signs a Hollywood
contract without her backers'
consent, she is found murdered.
Laird Cregar, the detective
placed In charge of the crime,
seems more Interested in put
ting the finger on Mature than
finding the real murderer, espe
cially since most of the clues
point to him. The mystery, is
deepened even more when Betty
falls in love with Vic and holds
out evidence which make him
look even more guilty.

CBS, said a Chinese communi
que reported today that Japan

Sinyang, In southern Honan pro
vince, on a rail line 100 miles
north of Hankow.
The Chinese said they re
pulsed two Japanese attacks on
their position there, then cut off
the attacking force with troops
which drove in behind the Japanese.
