fense areas," the commissions'
letter said. 'Tederal funds can
not be expended for projects
that do not meet with the army
and navy authorities. State
funds will similarly be frozen
due to difficulties in securing
priorities and materials and
equipment."
BACK FOR TRIAL
Alvin John (Pat) Whltechat,
charged with grand larceny,
was arrested at Redding, Cal.,
late yesterday, and Sheriff Syd
I. Brown, left this morning for
the California city to return
him here.
Whltechat is alleged to have
stolen $350 from his employer,
Carl Wiltermood, proprietor of
the Coffee Pot, on North Riv
erside, last Saturday night.
When Wiltermood missed the
money he called the city police
who went to Whltechat room.
The empty money bag was
found there, city police say, but
Whltechat was gone. It was
later learned he had purchased
a bus ticket for the south.
FATAL FIRE ON
KLAMATH RANCH
Klamath Falls, Jan. 28 W
A bunkhouse stove exploded
yesterday, sheathed the building
in flames, killed one man and
Injured two others on the Henzel
brothers ranch on lower Klam
ath lake.
Robert Schanz, 32, was fatally
burned. Hospitalized for serious
burn were Noah Boss Groves,
94, and William Howard Wright,
32.
- Wright, the ranch cook, said
the explosion resulted from oil
he poured onto the fire.

CCC men are again occupy
ing Camp Prescott on the slopes
of Roxy Ann. The camp was
abandoned some time ago when
the number of CCC companies
was sharply reduced.
Two CCC companies are now
occupying Prescott. The men
are engaged in defense projects
in this general locality. Details

justice court Tuesday for driv
ing an auto without a muffler.

George W. Welsh II, 28, was
indicted by a county grand jury
today on a charge of slaying
and mutilating his pretty 24-year-old
sister, Leila Adele
Welsh, in her bedroom last
March.
The Indictment, climaxing
weeks of investigation, was
drawn by the attorney general's
office at Jefferson City and re
turned to Circuit Judge Marlon
D. Waltner.
Her brother was summoned
before the jury for questioning
when he returned here from
California for the Christmas hol
idays. Soon after the slaying he had
told officers that he slept on a
divan In the living room near
his sister's bedroom the night of
the murder.

Jackson county for the coming
year was formally signed by the
county court yesterday, and
consists of 398 names, one of
the largest in many years.
Names of 24 women appear
on the list. The listings by towns
are: Ashland 138, Medford 134,
Central Point 21, Eagle Point
17, Jacksonville 8, Prospect 8,
Phoenix 2, Butte Falls 8, Tal
ent 4, and Trail 3.
First drawing from the list
will be for the February term
of circuit court starting the last
Monday in February.

The Edwards Evangelistic
Ladles' Quartet, appearing for
the past three nights in the Med
ford Church of the Nazarene,
Holly at First street, have been
accorded splendid hearings, ac
cording to the pastor, Fred M.
Weatherford. Their musical pro
gram includes vocal quartets,
vocal duets, with duet accom
paniment, instrumental solo vox,
the vibra harp, the accordion,
and saxophone. Miss Vivian
Chaffee has demonstrated that

Rev. Grace Edwards will
speak tonight on, "Four Steps
To God." There are from four
to five special musical numbers
each night.
Thursday night will be "States
Night." People from various
states will be recognized. The

musical demonstration on the
solo vox, and electric guitar, and
there will be vocal numbers.
The evangelist will speak on
"Meeting theh Supreme Test."
Saturday night will be fea
tured as musical request night.
There will be a demonstration
of the vibra harp. The evange
list will speak on "Conquering
the Last Enemy." The public is
