Rites Tomorrow F u n e r a I
services are to be held in Butte.
Mont., tomorrow afternoon for
Fred Kunz, father of Dr. C. E.
Kunz of 1036 West 11th street.
Mr. Kunz died Tuesday. Dr.
Kunz is unable to go to Butte
for the funeral as he is confined
to his home with laryngitis. Dr.
Kunz visited his mother and
father at their home in Butte
a year ago last summer. Had
Mr. Kunz lived, he and his wife
would have observed their 63rd
wedding anniversary on Febru
ary 3. At his office in tho
Medford Center building, it was
stated that Dr. Kunz probably
would not be able to resume
his dental practice until some
time next week.
Reported Missing F r 1 e n d s
here were in receipt of word
today that Mr. and Mrs. L. F.
Kuehnle, former Medford resi
dents now residing at 345 Esco
bita street, Palo Alto, Cal., have
been notified that their son
Ensign Lowell F. Kuehnle, was
missing in line of duty with
the U. S. forces. The parents.
friends here said, were clinging
however, to the hope that their
son might still be alive. The
Kuehnles resided- here at 212
Valley View 'Drive from 1930
to 1934 and Lowell attended
Medford junior and senior high
schools. Lowell was graduated
from the Palo Alto high schoo!
and took three years of pre
medical work at Stanford. He
left college to enter the service
In 1938. He was trained as a
naval aviation pilot and was
commissioned at Pensacola, Fla
in July 1939. His wife and
daughter, 16 months old, are in
Palo Alto. His brother, Jim
Kuehnle, is attending Oregon
State college.

Skiing Good A ground cover
of 17 inches of snow provided
good skiing and tobogganing
today in the Union Creek recre
ational area of the Rogue Rivei
national forest, headquarters
here reported. There was a
topping of 1V4 inches of new
snow, the forest office stated.

Ranger Hera John W. Sar-
ginson, ranger In charge of the
Lake o'Woods district of the
Rogue River national forest
transacted business today at
headquarters in the Medfori
federal building. Mr. Sarginson
has an office in Klamath Falls
during the winter. He arrived
this morning by bus and was
to return to Klamath Falls this
evening in a forest service
pickup truck that has been re
paired in the shops here.
Still Unconscious David Todd,
16, of Route 2, struck on a
bicycle by a car driven by
M. B. Lindley Wednesday morn
ing, was still unconscious today,
his attending physician said
Although a preliminary exami
nation failed to disclose the
youth sufered a fractured skull,
no x-ray pictures have yet been
taken because of his condition.
He sustained a severe head
laceration and concussion. The
accident occurred at Howard
avenue and the Pacific highway
Transferred J. F. Wallace,
district sales manager here for
the Union Oil company, today
announced that Marlin Gramse.
assistant agent in Medford for
five years, has been transferred
to The Dalles as agent. Mi.
Gramse left for his new post
yesterday. His wife will join
him there later. Mr. and Mrs.

lems raced by police in such

Medford there was really not
much commercialized prostitu
tion, District Attorney George
W. Neilson intimated, and in
Ashland and the rest of the
county there hasn't been any
at all. Of course sometimes
some travelling girls come
through but they are kept on
the move but there has been
no trouble here from commer
cialized prostitution, Mr. Neil-
son emphasized in compliment
ing the city police on their effi
cient handling of a troublesome
problem.

any influx of prostitutes fol
lowing cantonment workers or
soldiers.
The order to the few places
under suspicion to close up or
blow was issued after a meeting
here of law enforcement officers
of Jackson and Josephine coun
ties with a federal agency repre
sentative who explained the

which gives the federal govern

In Essay Contest
Medford Junior high school
students are now hard at work
preparing essays that will win
for them free passes to the Ri
alto theatre and a grand prize,
which is, a personally auto
graphed portrait of the famous
screen team of Abbott and Cos-
tcllo. The subject on which the
Rialto theatre management is
awarding the passes and auto
graphed photograph is: "What
major part has the 'cavalcade
of aviation' played In our na
tional defense?" and Is being
sponsored by the popular show
house in connection with their
showing of the sensational Uni
versal Pictures featurette, "Cav
alcade of Aviation," which
plays Tuesday and Wednesday.
The film opens with the first
flight of the Wright brothers at
Kittyhawk, S. C, in December,
1903, and continues through all
the phases of aviation to our
present day "flying fortresses."
The rules are simple. The
essay must not be more than
SOO words each and must be
turned into the English depart
ment not later than tomorrow
night, Friday, January 23. The
essays will be Judged by the
English department personnel
of the school.
The grand prize offered Is a
handsomely autographed por
trait of Abbott and Costello and
two passes to see "Cavalcade of
Aviation." The next five best
will receive double passes to
see the aviation film and the
next five will receive one pass
each.
The winners will be an
nounced in the Monday edition
of the Medford Mail Tribune.

AIRLINE TRAVEL
The priority plan for govern
ment transportation on commer
cial airlines announced in Wash
ington, D. C, systematizes and
improves the practice all air
lines have had in effect and per
mits seats for civilian travel as
well as for the priority military
and government travel. Presi
dent W. A. Patterson of United
Air Lines said today.
'Creation of a coordinator s
office under Brig. Gen. Donald
R. Connolly, military director of
civil aviation, establishes and
improves more orderly accom
modation of government trav-'
elers as well as civilians who
will continue making air trans
port reservations," Patterson
said. "Our planes are operating
at 64 percent load factor which
indicates our ability to serve
adequately normal civilian
travel demands."
