President Roosevelt was said on
high authority today to have
made it unmistakably clear to
those concerned that he intends
to vest in Donald Nelson, chief
df the new war production
board, the final decision on all
production and supply matters.
Members of congress have
been waiting anxiously for issu
ance of an executive order form
ally outlining Nelson's duties.
Some of the legislators had ex
pressed fear that the president
might not delegate such broad
authority to Nelson as was indi
cated In the first announcement
of creation of the new board.
There have been reports that
agencies within the present de
fense set-up had raised objec
tions to subordinating their au
thority over certain phases of
the program. Some army and
navy officials were said to have
complained privately at the
prospect that a civilian would
have the final word on vital
matters of production and sup
ply. But one well Informed offic
ial said there was no doubt that
Mr. Roosevelt would insist at
the start that Nelson be the
boss.

FIRST ICE JINX -PROGRAM
READY
Complete program for the
Medford Ice Arena's first "ice
jinx," to be held from 9:15 to
10:30 Saturday night, was an
nounced today by Denny Edge,
arena manager.
"Tick and Tack," Bill and
Dick Frederick, will open the
show with a comedy act en
titled "This and That." Miss
Ruth Edge -will then present "It
Can Happen On Ice," her rou
tine to include demonstrations
of the Lutz jump, the Jackson
Haines spin, split jump, spread
eagle, loop jumps, cross-foot
spin, change-foot spin and three
jumps.
Following, In order, will be
a three-lap ladies' race. Miss
Edge and Bill Frederick in a
14-step routine, a five-lap men's
race, a four-lap wheelbarrow
race and a broomball game.
A feature of the program will
be a baton drill by the Med
ford senior high school girls'
drum corps majorettes, support
ed by Miss Edge. The major
ettes are Harriet Matteison,
Joan Humphreys, Virginia Haw-
ley and Barbara McGrew.
Public skating will be enjoy
ed from 8 to 9:15 and from
10:30 to 11:30. There will be
no increase in admission prices.

Don Driskell. 18, of 713 West
14th street and a passenger
whose name was not listed in
the report of the accident luck
ily escaped injury shortly before
10 p. m. Thursday when the car
driven by Driskell plunged
through the railing of the Jack
son street bridge and dropped
15 feet, landing upside down on
the ground below,
Driskell, driving a 1036 Ford
V-8 coach, reported that the
right front wheel of the machine
struck the wheel guard at the
south end of the bridge, causing
the car to swing across the
bridge and drop over the oppo
site side.
The driver said In his report
that the car was not going fast
and just eased over the side of
the bridge after going through
the railing.
