Senator McNary (R., Ore.) was
quoted by the Portland Oregon
Ian today that the army and
navy wanted an aluminum roll
ing mill, just getting under
construction at Falrvlew, Ore.,
removed 400 miles inland.
The aenator told the news
paper In telephone conversa
tion that he had opposed the
removal and that "I don't think
It's lost to Portland yet."
He said no decision had been
reached on where the officials
wanted the $20,000,000 pant
moved, adding that Spokane.

20 years were Imposed today on
33 members of a fantastically
operated spy ring which net
worked the world in gathering
and delivering all kinds of mili
tary, commercial and industrial
intelligence to Germany.
Judge Mortimer W. Byera,
sitting in Brooklyn federal court
where 14 members of the ring
were convicted of espionage De
cember 12 .fter a 14-weeks' trial,
sentenced them and IB others in
cluding three women who previ
ously had pleaded guilty.
They were charged specifi
cally with failure to register as
agents ef the German reich and
with conspiracy to deliver vital
American de'ense secrets to Ger
many. Maximum possible sen
tence on the two counts was 22
years
