Blackout Devices for Vehicle
"The general public will be pleased to learn that purchase
of approved dimming devices (or private automobiles and
trucks probably will not be necessary.
"Because of the efficient operation In Oregon of the Air
craft Warning Service manned by civil reserves and trained
by the army, it appears very unlikely that there need be any
repetition of long precautionary blackouts such as were re
quired every night immediately following declaration of war.
"Brig -Gen. Carlyle H. Wash, of the second Interceptor
command, says: "Only official vehicles, such as army, navy,
state defense, air raid warning service, police, fire, ambulances
and so forth need be equipped with light covers for use In
case of blackouts. No special equipment should be authorized
for any other vehicles. Since blackouts will probably be of very
short duration, no vehicles should move after the blackout Is
announced and all lights should

should be allowed to run with full lights In case of a major
disaster.1 "

for the "time being" to the pub
lic, it was announced today.
The famous eastern Spa has
been the home for two weeks of
about 150 German and Italian
nationals, members of diploma
tie staffs and their families, and
others are enroute.

the various agricultural pro
grams and th local editors in
order that each may be of the
greatest help to the other, to the
benefit of the rural population as
whole. The community com
mitteemen were urged to see
that local correspondents obtain
prompt and accurate reports of
local happenings relating to the
