Plans were being made today
to accommodate a large attend
ance at the southern Oregon
basketball jamboree In the
Medford senior high school
gymnasium next Friday night,
December 19.
Five varsity high school
teams will take part in the jam
boree, Medford, Ashland, Grants
Pass, Roseburg and Klamath
Falls. Each team will play the
others in a 6-minute contest,
thus providing ten 6-minute
games all told.
Opening ceremony will be
staged at 7:45 and the first game
will be played at 8, said Russ
Acheson, Medford basketball
coach and director of the jam
boree. To B. Annual Event
The southern Oregon basket
ball jamboree is an innovation
and is intended as a regular
basketball season prelude which
will permit spectators, players,
coaches and officials to get
acquainted, Acheson said. It will
be made an annual event and
will be rotated among the par
ticipating cities.
Any officials who want to
serve In the jamboree were
asked by Acheson to get in
touch with Jean Eberhart at
the Southern Oregon College of
Education before Friday. Eber
hart is the czar of southern
Oregon basketball officiating.
Any unregistered officials
who would like to work high
school basketball games in Jack
son county this season were
asked to telephone Acheson at
the high school, 4970, without
delay to arrange to take quali
fying examination. Acheson saia
he would arrange to give the
examination individually to ap
plicants. A general examination
for all in a group was scheduled
for last Monday night but be
cause of the unsettling war
news, no one showed up, Ache
son reported.

The Medford Gun club has
postponed the turkey shoot
planned for Sunday to give the
shooters a last chance at the
ducks before the close of the
migratory bird season. The
next turkey shoot held in the
valley will probably be con
ducted by the Central Point
Sportsmen club, the date to
be announced at an early date.
Regular practice events will
be contested at the Medford
club at 11 o'clock Sunday morn
ing. If the attendance is large
enough some prizes will be shot
for. The public is invited.

Somehow th first course for
holiday feasts. In fact for any
dinner, is apt to be a puzzle.
But it shouldn't be not with
Libby's Fruit Cocktail on hand.
Canned in sunny California this
combination of peaches, pears,
tiny whit (rapes, pineapple,
and maraschino style cherries
has flavor of merit, and is al
ways ready, smart and appetiz
ing. Libby'i Fruit Cocktail is also
a convenient, economical des
sert. Chill and serve a-top ice
cream. Or, thickened, it has
many uses. To thicken, drain
the syrup from a No. 2's can of
Libby's Fruit Cocktail. Dissolve
2 tablespoons cornstarch in a
small amount of syrup. Heat the
balance to boiling. Add the corn
starch and cook until thickened
and clear. Combine with the
Fruit Cocktail. Use this as a
pudding sauce or as a filling for
shortcake. A most delightful
dessert is made by placing the
thickened Fruit Cocktail in tart
shells and topping with a jaunty
swirl of whipped cream.
Here's a recipe for another
quick, tempting pie that is ln
triguingly different:
Craamy Fruit Cocktail Pi
4 cup sugar
7 tablespoons flour
l'i teaspoon salt
2 cups milk
3 egg yolks
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 tablespoon butter
1 No. 2 Mi can Libby's Fruit
Cocktail
1 baked pastry shell
Blend sugar, flour and salt.
Heat milk to a scalding. Add to
dry ingredients. Cook in double
boiler until smooth and thick.
Cover and cook 10 minutes long
er. Beat egg yolks and add
mixture gradually. Return to
double boiler and cook 2 min
utes. Remove from heat; add
vanilla and butter. Drain Fruit
Cocktail and arrange in th bot
tom of th baked pastry shell.
Pour cream filling over the
fruits. Top with meringue made
by beating S egg whites foamy,
adding 8 tablespoons sugar and
beating stiff. Sweetened whip
ped cream may be used instead
of meringue.
Amount One 9-inch pie.
Another good idea is to serve
Libby's Cocktail, thickened and
hot, as a sauce with baked ham.
Added to fruit flavored gela
tin, it gives splendid flavor to
many salads. I like to place indi
vidual molds on Libby's Pine
apple Slices the result is pret
ty as a picture.
Jellied Fruit Salad
1 No. 2Vi can Libby's Fruit
Cocktail
1 package strawberry gelatin
1 No. 2 Mi can Libby's Sliced
Pineapple
Mayonnaise
Salad greens
Drain syrup from fruit cock- '
tail. Dilute with water to make
2 cups liquid. Dissolve gelatin
according to directions on pack
age. When cool, add fruit cock
tail. Pour into individual molds
and allow to set. Unmold on
drained pineapple slices. Gam- :
ish with greens. Serve dressing .

BOWLERS ASKED TO PUT

Secretary E. H. Baumgarten of
the American Bowling Congress
today asked the 18,000 bowling
leagues in the national organi
zation to put their league prizes
in United States defense bonds
and stamps. The A.B.C. has pur
chased $15,000 in bonds and
plans to convert most of its re
serve fund into such securities.
