Career of American Citizen
Portrayed; Picture Begins
Three-Day Run.
An exceptionally brilliant par
ade of motion picture produc
tions has been set for showing
in the Craterian theatre, with
"Citizen Kane," the much talked-
about film starring Orson
Welles, written by Orson Welles,
directed by Orson Welles and
produced by Orson Welles,
the lead-off hit starting a three-
day run today.
As the title implies, the film
deals with the career of an
American citizen, one Charles
Foster Kane, a man obsessed by
a lust for power over life, money
and love. The fate of many peo
ple, his own large fortune, and
the hearts of two beautiful wom
en are the objects of his con
quest in the story, which is filled
with a wealth of exciting inci
dents. Through a radically new
technique of story telling, the
brilliant and often clashing char
acterizations of Kane himself are
seen through the different eyes
of those who knew him, loved
him, hated him during his years
of creating a vast, one-man empire.
Welles tackled a difficult job
In bringing to the screen a com
plete portrait of a colorful per
sonage. But, by figuratively
circling around and around the
central character of Kane, each
time revealing a new aspect of
the man and his ideas and ideals,
Welles present a clear-cut pic
ture of the impulsive, ruthless,
charming, capricious individual
he has chosen to describe. The
result is rated a cinematic tri
umph, especially in the portrayal
of Kane's relations with his two
wives, both of whom loved him,
and both of whom left him be
cause he would not surrender to
love except on his own terms.

long. The wn elephant runs

tongue and bared fangs.
