Miss Thompson, whose legal
residence Is at Twin Farms in
Barnard, nine mile north of
here, filed the suit yesterday in
Windsor county court. The peti
tion was served on Lewis In
New York and is returnable at
the December court session.
The columnist asked custody
of their child, Michael Lewi, a
student In the Rlverdale school
on the Hudson. She said In her
petition that Lewis, a former
Nobel prize winner, deserted
her in 1936. They were married
In London in 1928.

machines promise to solve the
pressing need of growers of the
area for farm hands at harvest
time.
Adoption To Be Slow
Because a farm labor shortage
already exists, there seems little
chance that Introduction of the
machine on a wide scale will
bring about any economic or
labor dislocation. When the
mechanized cotton picker wa
introduced In the south. It was
done gradually, giving displaced
pickers time, If possible, to find
work In other fields.

Mr. Kehrll, In cooperation with
the League of Oregon Cities,
recently released a pamphlet to
all municipalities concerning the
new taxes and exemptions.
The pamphlet points out that

city, county and school district
will Increase unnecessarily un
less purchasing officials take
full advantage of the tax
exemption.
Municipalities as well as all
other employer must hereafter
file Information returns on em'
ploye earnings when the earn
ing amount to S730 or more
a year.
City officials should bear tn

stat tax on gasoline used In
