Tornado Faces Ashland in Annual Classic Here Tonight

Unstaggered and still far from

win will do it. A loss to Ash
land, however, will leave Med
ford, Ashland and Klamath
Falls deadlocked for the crown.

Grants Pass high school has can
celled its football game with
Corvallis here on Thanksgiving
day. Principal Henry Tetz said
after a telephone conversation
with the Corvallis principal.
Injuries, absences, naval re
cruiting and prospects of being
unable to furnish the necessary
guarantee led to the cancella
tion of the final game of the
season, the second to be wiped
off the books. The opener with
Yreka was cancelled when the
jinx-ridden Cavemen had
neither coach nor practice. In
the six games played, the locals
t'ed om and lost five, scoring
against Medford, Klamath Falls,
Myrtle Point and North Bend,
and being blanked by Ashland
and Marshfield.

California's comeback bid for
the Pacific Coast Conference
football championship gets its
field test tomorrow when the re
vitalized Golden Bears tangle
with Washington at Berkeley,
Rolling again after an early
season slump, the Bears have
fought to a position where they
can oust pace-setting Stanford
from the title by winning their
last three games Washington,
Oregon State and Stanford.
California's real test will be
the Washington Huskies, how
ever, and a win tomorrow would
make the Bears' chances for a
shot at the Rose Bowl look prom
ising. Stanford's defending cham
pions hook up with Southern
California at Los Angeles in an
other league clash Saturday. The
Indians crushed strong Santa
Clara, 27 to 7, last week, and
figure to have no trouble with
impotent U. S. C, victorious in
only two starts this season.
In two other conference en
counters Saturday, U. C. L. A.
runs up against Oregon State at
Corvallis. and Idaho faces Wash
ington State at Pullman.
The O. S. C. Beavers, one of
the three teams still in the
championship running, are fa
vored over the Uclans, but the
Bruins promise to be a threat to
any team with strong passing and
running from the q-T formation.
Washington State expected to
have an easy time with little
Idaho.
Barker Picks Navy to Trim
Irish; Tulane Over Alabama

New York, Nov. 7. HP) Without fear, and certainly with
out hope, here are this corner's guesses on the week's football
program:
Navy-Notre Dame: Both un
defeated though both have been
tied. Notre Dame has one very
good team; Navy has two. The
Tars have no passer as effect
ive as Angelo Bertelli has been
at various times this season and
on a dry field that edge might
be decisive. Still it's a guess
at best and we'll take Navy.
Tulane-Alabama: No matter
what the records may say, these
two look like the Southeast's
two most powerful arrays. Ala
bama's Jimmy Nelson has few,
if any, superiors as an all
around threat but Tulane, when
it clicks, seems unstoppable. Ex
tremely doubtfully, Tulane.
Southern California-Stanford:
No reason, on the records, to
look farther than Frankie Al
bert and Stanford.
California-Washington: You'll
go crazy if you look at the
comparative scores on this one.
Strictly out of the hat, Califor
nia. Oregon State-U.C.L.A.: This
one's in the far north. Oregon
State.
