metal and woodworking shops
In Jackson county will meet at
the Jackson County Chamber
of Commerce at 7:30 p. m. Mon
day to pave the way for receiv
ing contracts for the manufac
ture of parts needed In the
nation's gigintic defense pro
duction program.
Plans will be made also to
send delegates to Portland to
see a mobile government ex
hibit of all the parts and art
icles that can be made in small
shops. The special train carry
ing the display will be in Port
land November 24 with govern
ment engineers present to ex
plain the procedure to be fol
lowed in procuring contracts

things exhibited, it was stated
by Frank Hull, county civilian
defense coordinator and man-'
ager of the chamber of com
irerce. It is the government's aim,
Mr. Hull emphasized, to keep
the nation's small shops and
factories busy in defense pro-;
duction and to give them prior
ity for procuring materials for
continued operation.
Diamond Flynn, chairman of
the chamber of commerce in
dustries committee, will preside i
at Monday's meeting. He recent- i
ly went to the Federal Reserve '
bank in San Francisco to pro- j
cure specific information on
priorities and how to get small
defense contracts. Glenn L.
Jackson, chamber of commerce
president, will present the gen
eral background of the national
defense production program.

The Last Man's Club of Jack
son County, composed of ex
service men, will hold its an
nual meeting and banquet at
the Hotel Medford, Saturday at
6:30 p. m. The meeting and ban
quet is held once a year on the
Saturday preceding Armistice
day and the club will continue
to meet annually until there is
only one member remaining.
At the last banquet, the bottle
of Cognac, which was dedicated
to the "last man" when the
club was formed, will be open
ed and a toast drunk to all de
parted comrades, thus closing
the club forever.
Since formation of the club
on May 29, 1937, four mem
bers have answered the last call.
The evening's entertainment
will be furnished by Eve Pren
tice's Accordionettes. who have
appeared at every banquet since
the club was formed.

Donion, former Tacoma Jeweler,
against the Turf Smoke Shop,
asking $5,700 Donion said he
lost in poker games. The Judge
held there is no state '..w per
mitting a loser in a gambling
game to sue for his losses.
