that a young naval reserve of
ficer beat his bride with a sabre
last night and then fatally
wounded himself by thrusting

j as Lieut. Edward K. Harrison of

and said no Inquest would be
held since it "obviously was a
case of suicide."
Authorities at the naval air
station said an investigation
would be made by a board of
Inquiry. Harrison, an aviation
medical student at the air sta
tion, and Miss Mary Hoban were
married In the station chapel
last Saturday.

Conner, one convicted by a
Jury of six men and six women
in federal court In Portland on
a charge of violating th Lind
bergh kidnaping act, today were
free men. Federal Judge James
Alger Fee ordered them re
leased from custody following
filing of two not true bills late
Monday by a federal grand jury
here.
When the two men were con
victed for violation of the Lind
bergh act, the conviction was
set aside when the judge ruled
that the intent of the act did
rot Include a case of this typo
which did not Involve financial
reward. The two were arrested,
charged with kMnaping and
transporting Kathleen Polster
from Portland to a point on a
highway east of Vancouver,
Wash., January 19, 1941.
One not true bill freed Hlller
and Conner of white slavery
charge, and the other freed
Conner from a charge of steal
ing car and driving it from
Camas, Wash., to Portland.

old Fort Worth, Texas, youth,
held here on charges of auto
theft and armed robbery, has in
formed oflicers thit he le't a
string of worthless checks la
California, Nevada and south
ern Oregon, en route to Rose
burg, State Police Sergeant
Paul Morgan reported here to
day. McCann was arrested Sun
day night following a holdup
at, the A. A. Sandltn store in
norm Drain.
McCann told officers, Morgan
said, that he passed checks In
the sum of $10 each in Califor
nia cities and in Reno, Nevada,
and Medford, Ore. He was to
day ordered held for the grand
Jury with ball fixed In the sum
ot $2,300.
