activities has been planned for ,
Freshman Week at Southern ,
Oregon College of Education
this fall. The program will be-1
gin Monday, September 22, with
registration of all new students.
In the evening on Monday
picnic will honor new students,
sponsored by the faculty and
upperclassmen.
Entrance examinations for all
freshman students will be taken
Tuesday and Wednesday. The
Associated Men Students and
the Associated Women Stu
dents will organize Tuesday,
and these groups will have get-
togithers that evening. The
men will have a steak feed at
the barbecue pit on the campus,
and the women will picnic in
the park.
Skating Party
Upperclassmen will register
Wednesday, although it is ex
pected that many of them will
register on Monday and Tues
day. An all-school skating party,
sponsored by the Associated
Students, will feature Wednes
day evening.
Regular classes will begin on
Thursday, but this does not end
the Freshman Week activities.
Thursday evening the Assoc
iated Women Students and the
Associated Men Students will
sponsor a theater party for the
student body.
Freshman Week will be cli
maxed by a student body gym
party in the college gymnas
ium with the entire athletic
facilities of the college at dis
posal of the students.

Hitler's Slaves Will Revolt

ture Wickard declared today
that an abundance of American
food would serve as a "fifth
column" to incite the conquer
ed and hungry peoples of Eu
rope to rebel against Hitler.
In a speech urging farmers
to cooperate with the depart
mcnt's 1942 fa cm program
which is designed to provide
the nation with a record supply
ot food so that Great Britain
might be amply supplied, Wick
ard said:
"What do you think ts tha
effect upon those people looking
across the channel from half
fed France or Holland and see
ing the British are getting
enough to eat?
Food Fifth Column
"I think the effect," he said,
"is the equivalent of about 10
field armies. Food Is our fifth
column. - When the conquered
peoples see what America ts
supplying the British tn the way
of food, and know that there's
more where the British stipnlieS
come from, I think these peo
ple In the conquered countries
may do more than hope for
victory for the democracies;
they'll work and fight for it
The speech was prepared for
a regional conference of farm
leaders to discuss next year'i
production goals for Pacific
coast and Rocky . mountain
states.
Wickard told the farmers that
they should make ""some pretty
extensive adjustments" in their
1 042 production schedules.
There will be need for larger
production of some things, par
ticularly meats, milk, poultry,
and vegetables, and smaller out
put of wheat, tobacco and cot
ton, he said.

This country, he said, was ex
jected to furnish a fourth of
the British food needs in 1942.
"We are planning," he said,
"to send the British during
1942 dairy products that will
require between 4,300,000.000
and 6,000,000.000 pounds of
milk; about 800,000.000 dozen
eggs; 18,000,000 pounds of poul
try meat, chicken for the most
part; almost 1 ,300.000.000
pounds of pork and lard. Wa
have promised to send almost
123.000.000 tons of fruit, and
more than 2.500.000 cases of
canned vegetables."
