provements on the school, which
included new classrooms and
basement, have not been com
pleted due to Inability to secure
needed materials.

County Watermaster Says
. Survey Mainly For Pos

Although reclamation bureau
engineers are surveying a dam
. site at Debenger Cap, and draw
ing necessary plans, "its actual
construction is so far in the
future, it is highly indefinite,
according to Clinton Smith,
county watermaster, whose of
fice does the hydrographic
work, and is visited daily by the
engineers for factual data.
The reclamation bureau crew
has drilled 19 test holes about
100 feet deep. Yesterday engl
neers completed work on a sur

persistent report held the navy
was going to build a huge lake

latest reports contend work will

A 1938 Ford tudor sedan,
stolen early last night from the
used car lot of the Witham Mag
neto and Parts company, 215
East Eighth street, was discov
ered wrecked in a ditch near
Glendale by state police early
this morning, and the two occu
pants were arrested and taken
to the county jail in Grants
Pass.
Police said Harold Trayer and
Carl Reece, transients, found In
the machine, both slightly in
jured, denied having stolen the
car. Police quoted them as ex
plaining that another man ap
proached them in a local pool
hall last night and offered to
give them a ride north, and that
after the accident the man
climbed out of the car and
started hitch-hiking on north.
The car was damaged consid
erably and will have to be towed
to a garage, police said.
H. C. Witham, owner of the
car, was unaware that it had
been stolen until state police In
formed local city police that It
had been recovered, and city
police in turn contacted Witham.

The Rev. Brazil and wife, col
ored evangelists, who have been
conducting services at the
Church of God, Haven and Holly
street, will have what they call
"request night" beginning at
7:45 o'clock tonight. Favorite
songs sung through their ser
vices will be repeated upon re
quest. This program has proven an
outstanding feature in other
cities. If unable to sing all the
requests tonight they will con
tinue tomorrow night.
The special series of meetings
will close Sunday night. There
will be a special service at 2:30
p. m. Sunday to partake of the
ordnances of the Lord's house
foot washing and the com
munion, as tauRht In John's gos
pel and also other places in the
new testament. Mnny people
are exprctrd from out of the
city, and the public Is invited to
attend the services.
PLANS TONIGHT
Plans for the rodeo to be held
at the county fairgrounds Sep
tember 20 and 21 will be dis
cussed at a meeting of the Med
ford Athletic association at the
Hawklnson Tire shop tonight at
8 o'clock. All directors were
urged to attend.
The rodeo, sponsored by the
association, will be staged by
Max Barber of Klamath Falls,
who will. furnish all stock for
the event. Barber, according to
C. D. Davis, president of the as
sociation, provides the stock for
the Lakeview, Klamath Falls
and Redding, Cal. rodeos, and
is now in Pendleton.

C. C. Haggard, chairman of
first aid for the Jackson County
American Red Cross chapter,
announced organization today of
two first aid detachments, to be
composed of 15 to 50 men each.
One will be located at Timber
Products company and the other
at Medford Corporation. Pur
pose of the organizations la to
further first aid training In the
county with the thought in mind
of functioning at Industrial cen
ters and in event of emergency
in Jackson county.
Men taking part In the first
aid detachments will be given
the standard and advanced first
aid course and upon completing
their work will wear first aid
insignia, designating them as
capable of handling first
emergencies.
Mr. Haggard said the Medford
Corporation detachment will
meet Monday at 7:30 p. m. at
the Red Cross rooms in Hie
court house with J. B. Meehan
as instructor. Timber Products
A sub-committee for the city
of Medford alone was at work
today to advance the sale of de
fense savings bonds and stamps.
Within a week contact will be
made with all Medford mer
chants to have defense savings
stamps placed on sale at their
establishments, said Frank Hull,
chairman of the sub-committee,
part of the county committee.
At a quickly-organized meeting
yesterday afternoon, 20 mer
chants responded to short-notice
invitations and all agreed to fur
nish facilities for the sale of de
fense savings stamps at their
stores.
Mr. Hull said he had been In
formed that on a per capita
basis Oregon is leading the na-
aidltion in sales and he added that
his committee would like to see
Jackson county lead the state.
Mr. Hull was appointed sub
committee chairman by Earl
Newbry, county chairman. In
announcing the appointment,

last night, was stripped of acces
sories including a chrome finish

horn under the hood, the out
side rear view mirror, a V-type
bumper guard and a fish tail
from the exhaust pipe.

the thief also started to steal
the radio, but left the job un-:

bolts.
