was back today in his dental of
fice in the Medford Center build
ing after sojourning in the coun
try with Mrs. Kunz over the hoi
0 iday week-end. Dr. and Mrs.
Kunz rested at Diamond Lake,
Crater lake pnd Union creek.
They returned Monday night to
their home, 1036 West 11th
street.
Inspecting J. M. Rands, di
vision of engineering, U. S. re
gional forester's office, Port
land, left here this morning with
Robert Mercer, construction su
perintendent of the Rogue River
national forest, to make an in
spection of road construction
and maintenance on the forest.
Mr. Rands arrived here late yes
""terday afternoon by car and
planned to remain on the Rogue
forest the rest of the week.
Returning Sunday City
Councilman and Mrs. M. N.
Hogan and their children,
Michael and Sharon, are ex
pected to return Sunday from
the week's vacation they arc
spending in Idaho. They plan
ned to visit Mr. Hogan's mother,
Mrs. Josephine Hogan, in Ban
croft, Idaho, and friends in
Boise. They left by motorcar
last Saturday. Mr. Hogan heads
the brokerage firm bearing his
name.
Medical Men Needed To
meet increasing demands of var
ious federal agencies, the U. S
civil service commission today
w announced an intensive effort to
procure medical officers. A new
examination was listed for medi
cal officers of various grades,
the salaries ranging from $3200
to $4600 a year. Persons now
serving Interneships may apply
under new regulations. Com
plete information may be ob
tained at Medford postoffice
from Earl H. York, secretary of
the local board of civil sen-ice
examiners.

son arrived from Portland by
United Mainliner this forenoon.
Arriving from Portland last
midnight were H. E. McDonald
and Gordon Pickell. C. R. Car
penter left for San Francisco on
the same plane. H. Stamey left
for Seattle last night. E. R. Mc
Donald arrived from Seattle on
the late evening plane. Leaving
for Los Angeles were S. C. Cal
houn and Mrs. A. Monroe. !

yesterday afternoon. I. H.

Improved Kenneth Scripter,
son of Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Scrip
ter of 60 Rose avenue, left to-'
day for Vallejo, Cal., after re-1
covering from bruises, shock
and a lacerated hand which he
suffered Monday afternoon
when his car skidded on wet
pavement 25 miles south of
Dunsmuir, Cal., and plunged off
the highway. Mr. Scripter drove
to Redding. Cal., for his son
late Monday evening, bringing
him back to Medford. Kenneth's
car struck another auto on leav
ing the highway and California
state patrolmen reported the ac
cident as unavoidable. The pas
sengers in the other auto were
taken to a Dunsmuir hospital
and were reported last evening
by their physician as Improved
and able to be moved to Do iris.
Cal., their home. Kenneth Scrip
ter, employed at Mare Wand,
had been spending the "abor
day week-end in Medford and
was returning south when the
accident occurred.

New York, and Chandler, Port
land magician, visited with
Magician John Eads, 29 Ken
wood avenue, last evening.
Wong, billed as America's fore
most Chinese magician. Is en
route to Florida. Chandler Is
former assistant to the Great
Virgil.
Masting Tuesday The Med
ford Traffic Safety Council,
which has been inactive tor
more than a year, is scheduled
to meet at the Jackson County
Chamber of Commerce at 7:30
p. m. next Tuesday to hear Stan
ley R. Church, in charge of traf
fic safety work for the secre
tary of sute's office. In view of
the mounting traffic accident
and fatality record here, many
consider that revi-al of the
council is imperative.
Victims Improve 'Hospital
attendants reported today that
improvement was being shown
in the condition of Mrs. Archie
McBee of 206 Cottage street,
and her daughter, Mrs. Edward
Taylor of Monterey, Cal., con
fined in Community and Sacred
Heart hospitals, respectively,
with serious injuries they suf
fered in the automobile accident
last Sunday that took the life
of Mrs. Albert Barrow, 20. Both
were resting fairly easily, ac
cording to the hospital reports.
The accident occurred a mile
this side of Diamond lake. Mrs.
Barrow was a daughter of Mrs.
McBee.

Returns From Studies Ruth
Luy, 116 Newton street, re
turned Monday evening from
San Francisco and Hollywood,
Cal., where she, spent the sum
mer studying dancing. She
took opera ballet work in San
Francisco and at the Belcher
studios in Hollywood she worked
with Marie Kay. Mrs. R. S.
West of Willow, Cal.. accom
panied Miss Luy north and will
visit here with her lister, Mrs.
Leland Wilson, route 2. and Miss
Luy. Mrs. West is the former
Zoe Doll Lan'.is, theme girl for
the Golden Gate international
exposition. Miss Luy plans to
open her dance studio in the
Sparta building, September 8.
