Miss Marjorie and Miss
Mignon Phipps were hostesses at
a kitchen shower honoring Mrs.
Robert Naumes and Miss Phoebe
Dean at the Phipps home Wed
nesday evening. Mrs. Naumes,
a recent bride, was Miss Jarvie
Thompson before her marriage
June 12, and Miss Dean will be
married to Dr. Lloyd Staples of
Eugene tomorrow evening.
Dessert was served followed
by an evening of bridge with
Marearet Marv Mann and
Misa Barbara Garrigues, ' of
Philadelphia, Pa., holding win

held at the First Methodist

the group as chairman, assisted

The Dakota picnic will be
held Sunday, July 27 in the
Grants Pass city park. All those
who formerly resided In North
Dakota or South Dakota are in
vited. All fiddlers may partici

gree of Honor lodge will hold
an outing at Jackson Hot
Springs tomorrow. Those attend
ing are requested to meet at the
K. of P. hall at 10 a. m. for
transportation. Members are

Visitors Depart
For Coast Points
Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Harris
and Andy Long of Salinas who
have bees vacationing at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Shaw, 502 Maple street, have
gone to Newport, Ore., where
they will spend a short time.
During their stay In Medford
they visited Crater and Diam
ond lakes and scenic spots on
the Rogue river.
Mr. Long is an uncle of Mrs.
Shaw and Mr. and Mrs. Harris
are cousins of Mrs. Shaw. Also
a recent visitor at the Shaw
home was Mrs. Edna Phillips of
Applegate.

the thing which interests Seattle
baseball fans the most at present
is the way their Rainiers and
the San Diego Padres are whit
tling at the Pacific coast league
lead of the Sacramento solons.
Today the Rainiers are only
nine and a half games behind
the senators for two reasons.
They defeated the Portland Bea
vers in Portland last night, i-
tor their third win of the series
and their fifth consecutive tri
umph. The Padres spanked the
Senators for the. third night in
a row, 7-4.
Los Angeles expanded before
the largest crowd of the- Holly
wood season, 8,000 persons, and
beeat the Stars, 7-5.

Masons. Eastern Stars and
their families and invited guests
will gather at Jackson Hot
Springs, Sunday, July 20, for
big Southern Oregon picnic.
The committee in charge in
cludes Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey
Norrls, Mr. and Mrs. Woody
Morris, Chester Hubbard, Ray
Frisble, Paul Selby, Mrs. Luticia
Kunz, Mrs. Esther Fliegel, and
Mrs. Ruth Freed.
Those attending are asked to
bring their own picnic lunch,
knives, forks, spoons, cups and
plates. The Masonic and Eastern
Star bodies of Medford will fur
nish coffee, sugar, cream and ice
cream. The ladies are asked to
wear slacks or play clothes.
Invitations are being extended
to all members, including Ash
land, Central Point, and Jack
sonville, as well as others resid
ing here whether members of
any of the local lodges or not.
The affair will begin at 4
o'clock with stunts and games,
and a baseball game between
the Eastern Star and Masons.
The Stars have challenged the
boys and promise them a good
trimming. Following the games
dinner will be served around
5:30.
Arrangements are being made
for the Hillah Temple Shrine
band, under leadership of Ward
Croft of Ashland to play during
the evening.
Anyone wishing to attend the
picnic and not having a way to
go is asked to call Aubrey Nor
rls at 3123 and he will make
arrangements for their transpor
tation. This Is the first picnic of this
kind to be held for some time
and every effort is being made
by the committee to make it a
huge success. It is anticipated
that several hundred members
and guests will be present.
