kumln said today.
Dispatches reporting the
American action appeared un
der big headlines on the main
news pages of all Tokyo news
papers. Domel, the authoritative Jap
anese news agency, said that
this action is decisive and must
have been taken with stronq
determination." It means, Domei
said, that the United States
finally has entered the zone of
hostilities as defined by Ger
many and holds "increased pos
sibilities of further aggravation
in relations between tha United
States and Germany."
A special cabinet session has
been called for tomorrow after
noon, but Domel said It under
stood It would discuss budget
ary matters.

Bullets blazed over farm fields
at Beatty last night, resulting in
the serious wounding of Truman
Wilson, federal Indian officer,
and the Jailing of Floyd Fisher,
39.
Sheriff Lloyd Low led posse
to Fisher's home, chased him
across fields and captured him
after he fell while bullets whis
tled overhead.
Wilson accused Fisher, a
white man, of shooting him at
the door of the Fisher home, the
sheriff said. He added that Wil
son had answered a call from
Fisher's Indian wife, who said
her husband was threatening to
shoot her.

Graduation from high school
this year signified the beginning
of a great adventure for two
18-year-old East Aurora boys
whose preparations for final
exams were Interrupted more
than once by dreams of the
great north woods.
Hardly had the ink dried on
their diplomas when Silas Cline
and Robert Melville embarked
on a 2,000-mile canoe trip which
will take them through the
wilds of Canada to James bay
off Hudson bay.
The boys began preparations
for the trip months ago. They
obtained official maps of the
area from the Canadian govern
ment, studied the routes over
which they would travel, the
climate and possible diseases
they might encounter, and the
amount of food they would
need.
Barring accidents, they'll be
back borne Just In time to pre
pare for college this fall.

Although Edward Price Rich
ards was known as a male for
29 years, he petitioned the su
perior court at Los Angelas to
change his name to Barbara Ann
Richards. In his petition he said
his male characteristics were
predominant at birth and he waa
reared as a boy, but of late years
female characteristics have be
come predominant. Richards has
worn female attire like this tor
several years.

United States merchant ship ar
rived In Capetown today with
32 survivors of a British ship
torpedoed in the Atlantic.
Lester C. Hansen of Oakland,
Calif., master of the American
vessel, said he would not have
found the two boats of British
seamen, If he had not altered his
original course upon hearing of
the torpedoing of the American
ship Robin Moor. He had feared
his ship might be sunk by the
same German submarine.
The boats had been adrift 14
days.
Some of the survivors were
naked, others clad only in shorts
and all were suffering terribly
from sunburn when they were
found.
"For 15 days we doctored,"
Hansen said, "treating them for
swollen legs. The lips of the cap
tain were so raw that In the
morning he had to break them
apart."
Thirteen of the ship's crew
were killed In the torpedoing.
