new quarters and freight termi
nal of the Pierce Auto Freight
Lines, inc., since the opening
and reception last Saturday
Archie C. Pierce, head of the
company, and R. W. Frame, vice
president, both of Medford, at
tended the series of opening
events here. The new building is
one of the most modern ot its
kind in Eugene.
At luncheon attended by
members of United Commercial
Travelers, company executives
and others, Mr. Pierce told of
his organization of the company
in 1824 with one truck The
company now has 50 truck units
in service, 73 employe and the
territory served extends from
Portland and San Francisco, Mr.
Pierce told his audience.

C. Chapman to attend the big
Cincinnati Reds' baseball tryout
camp at Marysville, Cat., Sept.
18 to 27. The trio, all-stars from
the Portland high school league,
will be taken to the camp at
Cincinnati's expense.
The three youths, all 19 or
under, told Chapman they ten
tatively planned to enroll in col
lege this fall, but would like to
attend the camp to determine
for themselves whether they
had futures In professional base
ball. The Marysville camp will
be attended by some 90 special
ly selected young players from
all the western states, only
inose youths actually reconv
mended by Cincinnati agents or
scouts being eligible to attend.
At the Marysville camp pro
mising players will be offered
contracts with one of Cincy's
farm clubs, to report next
spring. Chapman was enthusias
tic over the looks of the three
young Craters, and predicted
they would probably all make
good and be offered contracts.
He said it was Cincinnati's pol
icy to encourage players want
ing an education to go to college
in the fall and winter, while
playing ball in tha summer.
The tryout camp being held
here for almost SO young play
ers will end Saturday, and
Chapman said that possibly two
or three more youngsters might
be Invited to the Marysville
camp.
