Upper Applegate Grange met
In regular session June 24 with
32 members present.
Work day was set for Wednes
day to prepare for 4th of July.
There will not be a community
picnic as had been planned. The
grange will sponsor dance the
4th ot July night. Mrs. John
Black was elected lecturer due
to resignation of Mra. Maud
Port. We are sorry to loose our
former lecturer but feel sure
Mra. Black will be successful in
her new office.
Next Grange meeting will be
the presenting of the Agate by
Jacksonville Grange.

lective service narrowed its age
limits today with the blanket
deferment of all men 28 years
of age or older not now In
training.
The effect of the order was
to make only those from 21
through 27 liable to year's
duty with the army in the fu
ture, and It Increased the like
lihood of an early call for many
of the 730,000 young men who
registered yesterday.
TO GET TRAINING
Moscow, July 3. UPi The
Soviet Russian cabinet ordered
general, compulsory training of
civilians today for air and gas
defense.
The order applied to all men
between the ages of 14 and 60
and women from 18 to 80 years
old.
The civilians were summoned
for training In factories, schools
and homes under supervision of
the air raid defense society, Oso-
vlachlm, and the local air raid
defense section of the NKVD
the Russian state police.
Special training is to be pro
vided for children from eight
to 18 years old.

day that no American vessels
on Atlantic patrols had engaged
in convoying, had become in
volved in combat, had suffered
any loss of life In their crews
or any loss of equipment.
The question of patrol opera
tion was raised at a press con
ference at which the navy chief
also was interrogated about crit
icism in cot.gress on his demand
this week that the United States
seize on the present moment to
sweep "the German menace"
from the Atlantic.

your guns on the speech," Knox
