her greatest surprise to her fans
In "A Woman's Face," gripping
drama of a woman's soul, open
ing a three-day run today at
the Craterian theatre, with

for him. Restored to beauty by
a surgeon, her nature gradually
changes with her face in a
graphic story of regeneration.
Miss Crawford, as Anna
Holm, on trial for murder for
the first decent thing she had
ever done In her life, presents
a striking dramatic figure.
Douglas plays the surgeon who
restores her beauty and later
figures In her regeneration, and
Veidt enacts the madman.
The sterling supporting cast
features Osa Massen, Reginald
Owen, Albert Bassermann, Mar
Jorie Main, Donald Meek, Con
nie Gilchrist, Richard Nichols,
Charles Quigley and Gwlli
Andre.
A cable trip over a roaring
gorge, a mad race against death
in the snow in sleighs drawn
by galloping horses, and other
thrills mingle with the dramatic
courtroom scenes and other de
tails of the elaborately staged
and costumed production.

Rialto Horror Hit
Field day for chill and horror
fans commences today at the
Rialto theatre, where a double
bill of chill pictures, "The Mad
Doctor" and "The Monster and
the Girl," promises thrill en
tertainment for everyone.
With Basil Rathbone, Ellen
Drew and John Howard in the
top roles, "The Mad Doctor" is
described as a study in abnor
mal psychology which dips
deeply into psychoanalysis, hyp
notism and allied murder. It
tells the story of a world-fam
ous psychiatrist, played by
Rathbone, whose mind becomes
twisted when he discovers his
wife has been unfaithful to him.
To wreak vengeance, he de
cides upon a career of crime
wherein he marries wealthy wo
men, has them name him sole
heir in their wills, and then
drives them to suicide through
the powers of suggestion.
This career takes him over
two continents and finally he
meets the one victim who he
really falls in love with and in
a thrilling climax tries to break
the spell he has brought upon
her before she is dead.
The Monster and the Girl"
is the story of a monster with
the body of a giant ape and
the mind of a man, grafted into
his skull by an anthropologist.
The brain was taken from the
skull of a man who had been
electrocuted for a murder he
did not commit. When the brain
begins to function in the body
of the monster, a fierce thirst
for revenge on the man who
sent him to the chair takes
possession of him. He breaks
away from the scientist and
goes in quest of his slayers and
the girl he loved, succeeding in
terrorizing a whole city in the
process.
The cast of "The Monster and
the Girl" includes Miss Drew,
Robert Paige, Joseph Calleia,
Onslow Stevens and Paul Lukas
in the starring role.
