visor. Editor Visits Her Fred
Schilpin, editor and publisher of
the St. Cloud Daily Times, St.
Cloud. Minn., was the guest of
Mrs. Delroy Getchell and Miss
Getchell at their home at 1121
South Oakdale avenue over the
week-end. Mr. Schilpin is one
of the best known small daily
publishers in Minnesota, and is
an old friend of the Getchell
family.
Father Dies Word was re
ceived here today that William
Westerlund died in Chicago last
Tuesday. Funeral services were
held Fridav. Mr Wtoriim4
father of Mrs. Lillian Salade of
Chicago, former valley resident,
had many acquaintances in the
valley where he had visited on
several occasions. Also surviv
ing are two other daughters,
Mrs. J. Westcott and Mrs.

through securities and sensitive
raw staple markets today, as
Wall street Interpreted the
Russo-German conflict as divert
ing Nail pressure from Britain
Save for continued bidding

the buying excitement was short
lived, and dealings slackened
after the first hour, although a
good part of the price rise was
retained.
The early bulge was one of
the sharpest In speculative mar-
nets since tne outbreak of the
European war nearly two years
ago.
Cotton for futures delivery
Jumped around $1 to S.1.50 a
bale.
Cottonseed oil, up around i
of a cent a pound, touched the
best prices in 13 years. Hogs at
Chicago reached the best prices
since 1937; wheat futures jump
ed as much as 4 cents a bushel,
and finished with gains of 2V4
to 2T's over Saturday.
Wall street quickly turned
cautious after the first buying
enthusiasm.

Walter V. Toster, a resident
of Phoenix for the past 21 years
passed away at his home there
Sunday evening at the age of 80.
He had been In failing health
for some time. -

D.. both of Klamath Falls, and
Joe G. Foster. Los Angeles,
