Planning for the second sea
son of the pear packing school,
occupied much of the time and
attention at the regular monthly
meeting of the Fruit Growers
league directors Friday.
The school will be conducted
In cooperation with the city and
county high schools, the Fruit
Growers League of Jackson
County, Inc., and the Oregon
State Vocational Educational de
partment, and will be known as
the Vocational Training Pear
Packing school. It will start July
14 at the warehouse known as
Pinnacle No. 2, at South Front
and Fourteenth streets. A man
atfer has been appointed and
other plans are nearing comple
tion such as purchasing of sup
plies, printing of new labels for
the school pack and so on.
Urge Early Registry
Early registration is urged by
Gordon Kershaw, chairman of
the Fruit Growers league com
mittee for the school and by
others in charge. They state that
those signing up early will re
ceive first consideration and
that those entering the first ses
sion will receive sufficient train
ing to be able to start packing as
soon as the packing season
opens. If necessary, it is planned
to run the school in three shifts
and if registration Justifies the
additional cession, one will be
conducted each evening. This
plan would enable housewives,
occupied during the daytime, to
take advantage of the school
training.
Applications can be signed at
any local packing bouse or at
the Medford high school.
Conditions Listed
Conditions to which prospec
tive students will be expected to
agree are as follows:
1. Prompt and regular atten
dance. 2. Payment of one dollar fee
which will be refunded on com
pletion of the course.
3. That the course, when com
pleted, does not guarantee a job.
4. Individuals taking the
course are to be considered as
students or trainees and In no
sense employees of any packing
company.
5. Students are admitted to
the school entirely at their own
risk.
6. Those in charge may at
any time request any trainee to
drop the course as a result of:
a. Irregular attendance; b. Improper-conduct;
c. Lack of ability
to do the required amount and
type of work necessary for pear
packers; d. Lack of proper co
operation on part trainee.
1. Upon satisfactory comple
tion of course trainee will be
available for work In local pack
ing plants, but no definite pro
mise of jobs can be made.
8. Applicant is free of types
of illness or physical defoimi
ties that would hinder or handi
cap in pear packing, and Is not
left handed.
9. Applicant has reached his
or her sixteenth birthday and
has not passed his or her thirty
fifth birthday.
10. Applicant is willing to
work Saturdays and Sundays.
11. Students will be required
to attend one four-hour session
each day and cannot attend
more than one session each day
Name, sex, date of birth, local
residence and telephone number
are required on application, also
date of application and name of
packing plant which sponsors
the applicant.
Expect Good Results
With the utility and success
of the school proved unquestion
ably last season, those in charge
are anticipating even greater
results this year in affording
needful work to resident! of
southern Oregon and in keeping
the large payroll Issuing from
the packing plants within local
borders. High school students
who apply for the course can
normally expect to make use of
the resulting training during
their entire college course and
the economic Improvement to
the city of Medford and sur
roundings is of vital Importance.
