Mr. Thurlow j
Celebrates 91st
Birthday Here t
Honored with a birthday din
ner at the Hotel Medford Fri
day evening was "Archie" Thur
low of Portland who flew from
the rose city to Medford to cele-,
brate his 81st birthday with his ;
son and family, Mr. and Mrs.
W. S. Thurlow, 32 Ross court.
Following is an editorial
which appeared In the Portland I
Oregonian, Friday: I
"It Is s very great pleasure j
to relate that Argumento Thur
low, sometimes called 'Archie,'
and other times, 'Dad', ia 91
years old today. In November of
this year he will have rounded
out 67 years as an employee of
the Powers Furniture company,
and it follows most naturally
that not only Is his birthday an
occasion at the store but quite
generally throughout the city.
"When we think of the times
through which 'Dad' Thurlow
has passed, the transitions and
changes to which he has been
witness, and how youthful his
outlook is to this very day, we
confess to something of awe. He
seems, indeed, the veritable
Father William of Southey's
poem in tribute to hale old age
except, we observe, that 'Dad'
Thurlow Is even more sprightly
of spirit.
"The Oregonian believes that
it speaks for a great many
people, all of them friends of
his, when it congratulates Mr.
Thurlow on his 91st birthday,
and wishes him many more of
them. And while congratula
tions are in order, it seems as
well to congratulate the Pow
ers organization, too, of which
this serene and competent old
gentleman 'gentleman' is ex
actly the word has so long
been a member."
