The following recreational
bulletin was issued today by
Rogue River national forest
headquarters:
"In spite of recent rains, many
parts of the Rogue River na
tional forest are in good condi
tion for recreation use.
"The Applegate district is now
at Its best, with an exception
ally luxuriant cover of green
grass and wild flowers adding
to the beauty of the timbered
areas. The Ashland loop road
is open from the Applegate side
to Dutchman peak and from
Ashland to Ashland peak, past
which points it is blocked with
snow. The clear atmosphere
permits better visibility from
this road than will be had later
In the summer, providing wide
vistas of snow-covered peaks and
Intermingling many -colored val
leys. Picking of wild flowers
and play in the snow may be
enjoyed within a few feet of the
aame point- nd the 'orest camP"
along the road are warm and
dry enough for pleasant picnick
ing. The Applegate river and its
tributaries are now clear, of
fering better fishing than earlier
in lire opt ma.
"In the Union Creek district
Rogue river is too muddy for
fishing below Bybee creek;
above that point good catches
are being made with flies. Trib
utary streams are still quite
high. The Herschberger road
and the old Diamond lake road
- 4n travel roads in the
vicinity of Woodruff Meadows
are badly rutted by logging
trucks. .
"In the Lake O" Woods dis
trict roads are still quite muddy,
but If the sunshine continues
until Sunday they will be in
good shape. Fair catches of
eastern brook trout by still fish
ing with cluster eggs and worms
are being made at Fish lake;
In Four Mile lake the same bait
Is bringing limit catches of sil
versldes. The road to Four Mile,
while rough and narrow. Is In
as good condition as It will be
any time during the season. A
few sllversldes are being caught
in Lake O' Woods by trolling.
Fishing in Hyatt lake is reported
poor, with many catfish dying
in shallow water along the
shore. Many deer are being seen
throughout this district and at
the air field at Lake O" Woods.
As many as 30 have been
counted at one time In the early
evenings. Bears are also fre
quently seen near the less-traveled
roads In thla vicinity."

DISPOSAL PLANT
Central Point, June 20. (Spl)
The city council has been no
tified by the state board of
health that it will be necessary
to take steps at once to halt
dumping of open sewers in Bear
Creek and that a proper sewage
disposal plant must be built as
soon as practicable. A sanitary
engineer has been called in and
will start preparation of plans
at once.
No estimate of costs can be
made until the engineer has
completed a survey for the pro
posed plant.

nor Charles A. Sprague will
leave here next Wednesday by
train for Boston, Mass., to at
tend the national conference of
state governors. Mrs. Sprague

the theory that Hitler ordered
Hess" flight to England hold to
gether fairly well, except on one
point you mention and one you

appear that Russia is ready and
waiting to go all out as an ally
of Germany. Sucb is far from
the case. Hitler knows how un
certain and reluctant is Russia
as an ally, and Hitler is prob
ably smart enough to realize the
futility of trying to convince the
British to the contrary.
The second point, omitted by
you, is that Hess took his life in
his hands. His plane was riddled
with bullets. You may refuse to
believe that report. But it is
established beyond all reason
able doubt that Hess was forced
to "bail-out" at night, a very
risky procedure, especially for a
man getting along in years and
not trained in parachute Jump
ing. Furthermore, it is well
established that Hess broke, or
at least seriously injured, hit,
ankle.
If Hitler had planned Hess'
visit, he could have arranged,
through any of numerous clian
ncls of communication still open
between Germany and England
for a much gentler trip for Hess
For example, Hess' plane could
have carried some identification
previously agreed upon between
the belligerents, and thus have
been spared by the R.A.K. I
