Annual school meeting was held
In the school gymnasium, Mon
day at 8 p. m. Earl Ulrlch was
re-elected director for a three
year term, the third consecutive
time that he has been elected on
the board. He also served two
terms a few years ago. Mrs.
Rose J. Kelley was re-elected
district clerk, her sixth year in
the work. The voting was light
this year, only 36 attending the
meeting. Fred Middlebusher is
chairman of the board of direc
tors for the ensuing year, and
Herbert L. Carlton is the other
board member.
Mr. and Mrs. Oeorge L. Jsntesr left
for Sesslds Tuesday, where Mr. Jant

pastor of the local Presbyterian
church, with 25 youngsters
under the age of 13, held an all
day picnic in Ashland Ltthia
park last Friday. They will put
on a varied program of Biblical
events at the church Friday eve
ning, June 20. The presence of
all will be sincerely appreciated
by both the pastor and the class
and all are cordially invited.

narrow escape from serious Injury
June 13 on a narrow rosd nesr
Dome, Cel., when Mr. Miller, who
wss driving, was momentarily blind
ed by Intense sunlight and loat con
trol ot the car, which crashed Into
a tree. Ths right fender and head
light were crushed but Mr, and Mrs.
Miller were unhurt.

cation period already beginning
and many motorists planning ex
tended automobile trips, the Ore
gon State Motor association rec
ommends a careful check of the
car before starting any long
tour. The AAA said:
"Interruption of a trip by un
pected breakdowns and conse
quent repairs is an annoying
and often expensive delay which
can many times be avoided by
an examination of the automo
bile in advance. A car might be
stalled In need of replacement
parts which can be supplied In
only a few localities particu
larly now with defense produc
tion beginning to cause shortages
in parts supplies.
Be sure you have lack In
good working order. A block
of wood may come In handy to
provide a good footing for the
jack.
See that there is small roll
ot Insulated wire and a roll of
mechanic's tape In the service
kit.
Carry spare spark plugs, fuses.
a set of extra headlight bulbs
(unless the car has sealed beam
headlights) and particularly an
extra fan belt. The belt drive
the generator on most cars and a
broken one can mean serious dif
ficulty. Know where to look for a
burned-out fuse In the light, horn
and other circuits. Wiring dia
gram in the car Instruction book
usually show fuse locations. In
spect tires for nails, tacks, glass,
etc., and be sure that the tires
are In good condition. Check
air pressure in all tires and the
spare. Have the brakes In
spected for lining and adjust
ment. Have the car thoroughly lub
ricated with a proper grade of
lubricant and wheel bearings
cleaned and repacked with the
required special grease. Check
steering mechanism for any
loose or damaged parts. Be sure
to drive carefully.

man found a valuable diamond
ring that had gone unnoticed by
people with good sight for more
than two weeks. Robert Reid,
owner of a concession on the
ground floor of the state capital,
was mopping the floor near his
stand with a sponge and felt the
ring.
