said he would be willing to sell
now to finance gold mine pros

newspapers, which he said were
authentic originals included the
New York Tribune of August
23, 1856. and September 3, 1857,
the American Traveler, Boston.
February 1, 1857. the National
Era, Washington, D. C, Decem
ber 8, 1859. Harper's Weekly,
January 17, 1874, and the Satur
day Courier, July 31, 1847.
Some of the early papers con
tained accounts of the Indian
wars In Oregon.
Graduates John Alexander
Cleland. son of Mr. and Mrs.
Hance H. Cleland, 718 South
Oakdale avenue, was among
graduates from Northwestern
university at Evanston, III., Sat
urday. He received his bachelor
of science degree in the school of
commerce. He plans to spend
several weeks in southern Mis
souri with friends before driving
to San Francisco where he will
be employed in a law office dur
ing the summer. He plan on
entering law school in the fall.
Mr. and Mrs. Cleland were un
able to attend graduation exer
cises, but plan to motor east next
week for a short vacation. Mr.
Cleland is president of the California-Oregon
Power company.
