Mrs. Effie Ernst
of Grants Pass and
Josephine County
Oregon's better cooks know their
sugar. Mrs. Effie Ernst, of Grants
Pass, is no exception. When asked
what sugar she prefers, she in
stantly repliedi "I really like Ore
son White Satin sugar." Taking
her questioner to the kitchen cab
inet and throwing open its doors, she addrdi "See for your
self. There's 'White Satin' sugar. I use it in all my cooking.
I like it not only because it is a good sugar, but it is an
Oregon product, too."
Mrs. Ernt is famed throughout her section ef the state
for her excellent cooking, but whether she is better known
for the oride she takes in her two daughters and son, all
grown, for her services as a cook at church, lodge or home
makers camp, or for the daily meals she serves to her hus
band, Mr. C. H. Ernst, is a moot question.

"GROCETERIA GOODNESS" ONE SHOPPING STOP FOR EVERYTHING"
FATHER'S DAY
SUNDAY!
A young lady wrote the following about
Father' Day. She wouldn't sign her
name because she doesn't want her Dad
to know she thinks he gets up cranky
once in a while.
SUNDAY, Father's Day is the one day in the
rear for paying our respects to the roan v.ho
couldn't have realized how big the job of
furnishing the home and everything for us
was going to be. Dad does carry a heavy responsi
bility. I never realized this until I went to work and
bought my own things. Now I am beginning to see
what it meant to keep the home going and give us
children an education so we could earn our own way.
It must have worried him a lot sometimes, but now
I can see that his troubles made him happy, so I'm
not sorry for him. I am just thankful.
I think we should show our Dad that we appre
ciate everything, even though he does get up cranky
Mice in a while. We used to think him awfully cross
but now we know that he wasn't really road at us.
V. : I
I think he was cranky at him
self because he just couldit
see his way to do as much fcr
us as he wanted to or maybe
we expected too much because we didn't understand.
I got my Dad some new summer ties. The way Dad
wears his I don't think men like to buy ties so I
bought him some but I'm getting a chocolate cake
at the Groceteria to give with them. Mother says the
way to a man's heart is through the stomach and I'm
practicing because this it June.
