Brilliant Coloring
In Craterian Film
on Current Program
Brilliantly conceived, master
fully executed and beautifully
paced. "Blood and Sand" opened
yesterday at the Craterian the
atre to a packed house.
Starring Tyrone Power, the
film is easily the finest techni
color production that has ever
been shown on the screen. The
color camera was used, in a
manner of speaking, not Just to
photograph but to paint the
scenes with me result an im
pressive screen achievement
combining action and art.
With Linda Darnetl and Rita
Hayworth in the two leading
feminine roles, "Blood and
Sand" depicts the story of a
matador who Is torn between
love of his beautiful wife and
the allure of a fiery temptress
The contrast between the devo
tion and fidelity of the wife and
the callous fickleness of the
siren forms a drama in the mata
dor's life which makes it one of
the most moving films of the
year.
The bull ring sequences, stun
ningly staged and photographed,
which approximate in potency a
first hand witnessing of the
spectacle, are among the most
thrilling scenes ever filmed. It Is
here, especially, that technicolor
has been used in its full power
lending to the scenes all the
direct, heart-stopping action and
panoramic beauty of the vast
amphitheatre.
Nazimova, Anthony Qulnn, J.
Carrol Naish, John Carradlne
and Lynn Barl are among those
featured.
