lations no one under 16 yean
of age may be employed with
out a permit, C. H. Gram of
Salem, state labor commissioner,
told the Mall Tribune late yes
terday after he had conferred
at a luncheon-meeting with
packing house men here.
To be eligible for employment
persons 16 to 18 must have a
permit and the permit Is pro
cured by applying to the bureau
of labor at Salem, Mr. Gram
emphasized. The bureau makes
an Investigation of each case
before issuing the permit, he
added. The commissioner also
pointed out that under no cir
cumstances may anyone under
18 years of age work at certain,
specified Jobs that are consid
ered hazardous.
Application forms for work
permits for minors may be ob
tained at the state employment
service office, 45 North Fir
street, Mr. Gram said. He em
phasized that a birth or bap
tismal certificate must accom
pany the application.
Mr. Gram was accompanied
by his chief deputy, W. E. Klm-
sey, who is in cnarge of the
labor bureaus Portland office

The Southern Oregon Federal
Business Men's association will
hold a luncheon-meeting In the
Cave Shoppe cafe. Grants Pass,
t 12 noon next Thursday.
Principal speaker will be Carl
Massie, Grants Pass postmaster
and president of the Oregon
Postmasters association. Mr.
Massie will talk on "National
Defense Savings Bonds." After
the luncheon he will take the
group on "follow-a-letter-
through-the-mails" tour at the
Grants Pass postofflce.
All members were asked to
notify Edward P. Cliff, supervis
or, Siskiyou national forest,
Grants Pass, if they plan to at
tend. R. A. Work, Medford, Is
president of the association.
