ARE FIRE HAZARDS
Medford property owners were
asked by Fire Chief Roy Elliott
today to clear their land of all
tall grass, rubbish and other ma
terial that presents a fire hazard.
Grass, the chief said, should
be cut back from homes and
buildings. The cut grass and all
other material should be burned
in a safe place away from build
ings, the fire should not be left
unattended and should be put
out completely at nightfall, he
explained.
Ordinary burning may still
be done without a permit but If
any hazardous situation exists
the fire department should be
notified of the burning by tele
phoning 3790, the chief said.
Permits, he added In urging ac
tion now, will be required soon.
He said the department antici
pated the usual cooperation of
the public in these fire preven

Craterian Showing
Broadcasting Film
When 'The Great American
Broadcast," opened at the Cra
terian theatre last night, that
sensational trio of 'Tin Pan Al
ley, Alice Faye, John Payne and
Jack Oakie, scored another out
standing hit. Cesar Romero is
starred with them.
'The Great American Broad
cast" Is the tuneful story of radio
broadcasting keyed to a gay note.
Skillfully reflecting the mood
of the period spanned by the pic
ture, are the catchy numbers
written especially for the film
by Mack Gordon and Harry
Warren. You'll come out whis
tling "Run Little Raindrop.
Run." "Long Ago Last Night."
"I Take To You," "I've Got A
Bone To Pick With You," "The
Great American Broadcast."
"Where You Are" and "It'a All
In A Lifetime."
The story is gay, and yet dra
matic. Alice, John, Jack and
Cesar are four people filled with
confidence and courage as they
strive to make America musical
ly conscious via the airwaves
something that's never been done
before. They put over the first
broadcast. of opera and boxing,
and put across the Idea of a
nation-wide hook-up.
That sensational dance team,
the Nicholas brothers, are even
more devastating than in 'Tin
Pan Alley" and "Down Argen
tine Way." Radio's favorites,
the Four Inkspots, blot out your
blues; and those comics of the
Follies Bergere, the Wiere broth
ers, had the patrons of the Cra
terian theatre in stitches as they
went through their Incomparable
comedy routines.
Beautiful blonde Mary Beth
Hughes registers another hit as
Jack Oakie's wisecracking cine
ma secretary.
