ELKS ILL PICNIC
DESPITE DOUR SKY

Despite the appearance of
clouds in the sky, Harry Barne
burg, general chairman of the
picnic committee, said that the
annual Elks picnic would be held
this afternoon and evening as
scheduled, and that the weather
man had positively promised
there would be no rain to
dampen the spirit of the affair
"It might not be so warm as
hoped, but it will be ideal picnic
weather." Chairman Barneburg
predicted. "A big bonfire is be
ing laid at the picnic grounds
on Rogue river just in case it
should be cool, but it probably
won't be needed."
Feature of the picnic will be
30 rounds of boxing by CCC
sluggers. Emil Vivoda is ar
ranging the mitt card, which will
find Fred Erickson acting as re
feree. E. C. (Jerry) Jerome will
do the announcing.
The dinner, to be prepared by
Shy Morthland and Tony Boi
tana, will be served at 7 o'clock
sharp. There will be barbecued
meat and Italian spaghetti, along
with all the trimmings. The
fights will be held immediately
after the dinner, and there will
be various games and entertain
ment for all. A Softball game
will be played late this after
noon. Street flares have been placed
along the Crater lake highway
to guide automobiles to the
grounds.

The damage suit of Dr. C. T.
Drummond against L. F. Belk
nan. retired minister was dis
missed in Circuit court yester
day, under an order signed by
Circuit Judge H. K. Hanna.
The motion for dismissal
stated the case had been settled
without costs to either party.
Dr. Drummond in his com-
plaint sought $2,500 as a result
of a crash last January near the
Stewart avenue intersection
with the Pacific highway, be
tween autos driven by himself
and Belknap. Dr. Drummond
sustained inurics that required
hospitalization.

Gold Beach, Ore., June 5.'
W) Lewis W. Tillison; 65, was
killed and Robert Breen, 75,
was injured yesterday in the
plunge of their automobile 200
feet from the coast highway.
Breen struggled back to the
road, three miles south of here,
and hailed a bus which brought
him to a hospital. Rescuers had
to hack a trail through heavy
brush to return Tillison's body
to the road.
Both men were Crescent City,
Cal., residents.

fined $500 In circuit court yes-
tcrday after pleading guilty to
failing to stop at the scene of
a fatal accident.
The accident, last December
23, took the life of Elinor Mar
ian Falk, 11, of Milwaukie.

nesday afternoon although a tire
on one of the landing wheels had
blown out.
The accident apparently oc
curred as the plane took off.
The ship, piloted by Lieut
Arch Campbell, circled over the
field on Denver's eastern out
skirts for more than an hour
after the mishap was discovered
Officials at the field said
Campbell brought the huge ship
to an almost perfect landing on
its one good tire.
