Mrs. Roy T. Bishop, state pre
sident of Pro America, urged
women to awaken to their sense
of responsibility and become in
terested in the political party of
their choice, when she addressed
Medford members of Pro Ameri
ca at a luncheon meeting yester
day at the Hotel Holland.
The speaker stressed the neces
sity of women taking part In
politics. She discussed forma
tion of "20 clubs." small neigh
borhood gatherings sponsored by
Pro America at which a study
of American government will be
the main topic.
She suggested that Pro Ameri
ca members take up a study of
elementary and high school text
books and supplementary read
ing material during the coming
year.

Mrs. Norrls To Visit
Friends In Vermont
Mrs. M. J. Norris of Brook
bank Orchards, left last eve
ning by train for Vermont by
way of Canada, to visit friends
until the latter part of July. She
plans to return to the Pacific
coast via Panama Canal.

Oregon state employment serv
ice today described the migra
tion north from California of
some 3000 strawberry pickers
as a "credit card" argosy.
Director L. C. Stoll said that
two berry processors, perceiving
a picker shortage, obtained
sheaves of gasoline credit cards
from oil companies, sent agents
among the migratory work
camps in California and placed
the cards with likely-looking
pickers who lacked funds for the
trip north.
Cost of gasoline and oil utli-
mately will be charged against
the earnings of the pickers.
Stoll said that "all concerned
were well pleased with the
plan.

Washlneton. June 5. (IP)
Secretary Morgenthau disclosed
today the coast guard was turn
ing more than 3,000 of its sail
ors over to the navy to man
new navy transports.
Morgenthau said at a press
conference this transfer was the
cause of an executive order
signed by President Roosevelt
yesterday directing that an un
specified number of coast
guardsmen should "operate as
a part of the navy."
