Confesses Triple Slaying CIO WILL DEFY EDICT
FOR GRADUATION
8TH GRADERS
The 20th annual Jackson
county School day will be held
at the Junior high school in
Ashland Thursday when diplo
mas will be presented to 300
eighth grade graduates from all
schools In the county outside of
Medford and Ashland, by Coun
ty Superintendent C. R. Bow
man. The main address will be
given by Dean J. R. Jewell of
the Oregon state system of
higher education.
The program will be as fol

AT BOEING FACTORY

of the main Boeing Aircraft
company loomed today as a po
tential trouble scene In the
CIO's determined drive to lure
the workmen away from the
AFL's Aeronautical Mechanics'
union.
In defiance of an edict of the
mayor and police chief, spokes
men for the United Auto Work
ers' union said large CIO
force would accompany leaflet
distributors to the plant at the
change of shifts in late after
noon. Harvey Jackins, acting leader
of the CIO group, said a force
of 2.000 CIO men would be
mobilized outside the Boeing
gates.
Jackins was one of the num
erous members of the AFL un
ion who were expelled during
recent international union
"trials" on charges of encour
aging dual unionism. Several
others were expelled as the re
sult of a union trial board's
hearings on charges of commu
nistic activity within the union.

Dwy Cameron, (lit) IS, confessed to him that he entered a
store postofflce at Huntley, Vs., bent on robbery, and slew Mr.
and Mrs. Edward Johnson and their JS-y ear-old daughter,
Ethel. Standing is state trooper D. H. Mason.
The Jackson county grand
Jury, drawn yesterday, recessed
subject to further call, after a
short session. No criminal cases
were presented butinquiry was
made into recent tatai auto acci
dents and the deaths of Vem
Dollarhide near Ashland and
Mrs. Ira May LeeClair of the
Gold Hill district. In both cases
death was accidental, all the evi
dence shows, District Attorney
George W. Neilson said.
It is anticipated the grand
Jury at its next session will file
a report dealing with speeding
and reckless driving on the high
ways and streets of the county.
The district attorney reported
the lack of criminal matters for
presentation to the grand jury
was the first time in many years.

MARTIN L. PORTER
PASSES, AGED 61
Martin Lee Porter, 61, of
South Columbus avenue, passed
away at a local hospital Mon
day evening.
He was born In Missouri,
Oct. 18, 1879. In 1914 he came
to Medford from Colorado. In
1915 he was united in marriage
to Mary Jane Robinson, who
survives. He also leaves one
daughter. Ruby May, living at
home, and four sisters, Mrs.
Molly Smith, Oklahoma; Mrs.
Jessie Race, Pendleton; Mrs.
Bertha Miller, Colorado, and
Mrs. Francies Brainard, Napa,
Idaho. He had been a member
of the Christian church for
many and was a member
of the Medford IOOF lodge.
