- A heavy downpour late last
night drenched the city and
gave the town an official
weather bureau total precipita
tion of .27 of an Inch for the
34 hours ended at 4:30 a. m.
Showers in the afternoon
were followed by the heavy
rain between 11:13 p. m. and
12:11 a. m. The weather bureau
said it was likely the rain was
heavier In other parts of the
county than in town. More
showers were predicted for to
night. Accompanied by rain meas
uring up to as much as half
am inch, a lightning storm
iwept over parts of the Rogue
River national forest late yes
terday. Only one fire was set
by the lightning, however, and
it was quickly put out.
The lone strike occurred on
Sherwood creek in the Union
Creek district of the forest near
the Umpqua divide. The storm
passed over the Applcgate and
Butte Falls districts and part
of the Union Creek district.

In Accident Congregation of
the Central Avenue Church of
Christ was notified by telegram
today that the Rev. Melvin
Sparks of Wheatland, Cal., and
his wife were in an automobile
accident near Redding, Cal.,
while they were en route to
the church here. Mrs. Sparks
suffered a broken collar bone
and was taken to a hospital for
treatment, the telegram said.
The car was badly damaged.
Mr. Sparks Informed the con
gregation he would speak in the
church here September 16.

miles east of Malheur City in

Mrs. H. A. Wirth, when the
house in which she was cooking
was swept away by a wall of
water.
Mr. Wirth contacted slate po
lice here and told them that
