Saturday morning at 10 o'clock
In the First Presbyterian churcn
Dr. Sherman L. Divine, church
castor, united the couple in mar
riaee in an altar setting of white
gladiolus. Miss Margaret Ann
Brown lighted the altar candles.
Mrs. O. C. Failing played wea
ding music and Miss Constance
Moore sang "Oh Perfect iove
and "Because".
The bride who was given In
marriage by her father, wore
stunning full length dress of
white Jersey fashioned with full
skirt and slight train. Her finger
tip tulle veil fell from a cap of
tulle and orange blossoms and
she carried a bouquet of garde
nias, sweetpeas and bavardia
Mrs. James M. Wallin was ma
tron of honor. Her frock was
made of aqua lace and her bou
quet was comprised of pastel
astors and bavardla
J. L. Young of Seattle acted as
best man for his brother and
ushers were James M. Wallin
and Cornelius Collins.
A reception for. fifty guests
followed the ceremony at the
home of the bride's parents on
Ross court. Mrs. Wilfley was as
sisted by Mrs. J. L. Young. Mrs.
C. B- Collins, Mrs. Sherman L.
Divine and Mrs. Helen Holt
Wilson.
After the reception the young
couple left for the north on a
wedding trip to Victoria, B. C.
They will return next week to
make their home at 25 North
Orange street. For a traveling
ensemble, Mrs. Young wore a
black redingote with matching
accessories.
The bride has been popular In
social and civic affairs of the
city and is. member of the
Business and Professional Wom
en's club, president of the Crater
Lake Guild of the Presbyterian
church and associate member of
the American Association of
University Women. She attend
ed Doane college in Crete, Neb.,
and graduated from the Lincoln,
Neb., business college.
Mr. Young came here a year
ago and Is the office manager of
Lost River dairy. He is a gradu
ate of University of Nebraska
and Is affiliated with Tau Kappa
Epsllon fraternity.
Ashbaughs Transfer
To Oklahoma Fort
Word received In Medford
yesterday from Reno, Nev., told
of the recent transfer of Lieut.
James Ashbaugh and Mrs- Ash
baugh to Fort Sill. Okla. Mrs.
Ashbaugh is the former Helen
.Gould whose wedding was an
event of three years ago here.
The couple have visited In
Medford frequently with her
mother and sister, Mrs. D. E.
Gould and Mrs. R. W. Chtldreth.
Lieut. Ashbaugh was called
for active army duty about six
months ago, prior to which
time for many years he was a
member of the reserve army.
They will make their home in
Oklahoma City.
Sojourners Meet
F or Dessert Lunch
Thursday afternoon of this
week will see Medford Sojourn
er club members gathering at
the Hotel Medford for the first
meeting of September. Meetings
are held on the second and
fourth Thursdays of each month
and with the close of the vaca
tion season it is expected that
attendance at the meetings will
materially Increase.
Mrs. Herald Gardner is chair
man of the committee In charge
of the affair, and she will be
assisted by Mrs. H. L. Houti.
Mrs. Lester Mel son and Mrs.
Leonard Lewis. Dessert will be
served at one o'clock and will be
followed by bridge.
Past Noble Grands
To Meet Thursday
Past Noble Grands club will
meet Thursday evening at 8.00
o'clock in the Girls' Community
club.
This will be the first meeting
since June. The president. Leah
Ivie. would like to have each
member attend.
Kathryn Satterlee, chairman
of the program committee, has
planned an interesting entertain
ment for the evening. Ella Gould
and her committee will serve
refreshments. Any past noble
grand visiting in the city is wel
come. Kurds Visit In
California Town
Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Hurd are
spending several weeks visiting
friends in LaJolla, Cal-, their
former home. They expect to re
turn to their home in Perrydale
about September IS by motorcar.

Adarel Observes
Birthdays of
Members at Meet
Adarel chapter No. 3, O- E. S.
of Jacksonville held its regular
meeting Thursday evening In
the Masonic hall after a vaca
tion of two memths. The chapter
room was beautifully decorated
with baskets and vases of fall
flowers.
Mrs- AUIean Maxwell, worthy
matron, announced that the
birthday party for members
would take place in the dining
room, and Mrs. Jeanette Spencer
would officiate.
The members who had birth
days In the months of January,
reDrtiary and March led the
march and found their table
decorated with an Eskimo scene,
Lincoln's cabin and an Easter
cart filled with eggs drawn by
two rabbits. Those in April, May
and June found a parasol, a
Maypole, and bride and groom.
Those in July, August and
September found a vase filled
with flags, two halves of water
melon full of pink flowers and
a bowl of fruit. Those in Octo
ber, November and December
found a cart full of pumpkins
squash and beans, a turkey
drawing the cart and a small
decorated Christmas tree. Also
on the tables were four cakes
baked by some of the members
and decorated with "H a p p y
Birthday."
Mrs. Spencer, looking through
her crystal, told the members
many interesting things of the
present, past and future.
Mrs. Margaret Knutzen was
chairman of the refreshment
committee.
Reames Chapter
To Meet Soon
Reames chapter. No. 66, O. E.
S. will open its fall session with
a meeting Thursday, at the Ma
sonic hall at 8 p. m. followed by
a special program and light re
freshments. All members of the local
chapters and members of any
other chapters are especially In
vited to be present. Visiting
members are urged to plan on
spending the evening with
Reames chapter twice a month
for the ensuing season- A special
appointed committee is in
charge of the social hour and the
entertainment committee has
planned the program.

dessert bridge party for Mrs.

The beautiful George Hunt
perpetual trophy will be at stake
once again when the champion
ship tournament for women is
held next week at the Rogue
Valley golf club.
The tourney will open Wed
nesday at which time all club
divoteers are invited to partici
pate in qualifying rounds. It is
anticipated that a large crowd
will turn out and that many In
teresting matches will be play
ed.
Mrs. F. O. Bunch is defending
champion.
Laddie Selkirk, club pro, is In
charge of the tourney.

that a capacity crowd is expect
ed and that the limit of reserva
tions has almost been reached.

Eddie Simmons
Marriage Today
Miss Wilma Houston, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Houston of
Trail, and Eddie Simmons, one
of the state's best known golf
ers, were to be married this
morning at 10 o'clock in the
Methodist church in Reno, Nev.
The pretty bride chose a me
dium blue suit and black acces
sories for her wedding ensem
ble, and a corsage of orange
blossoms and lilies of the valley
, Mr. Simmons is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. E- L. Simmons of
this city. He is a graduate of
Medford high school and at
present is the manager of a
Union Oil station here. He was
four times champion of the
Southern Oregon golf tourna
ment and runner-up in the an
nual tourney held here last
week.
Miss Houston is a graduate
of the Eagle Point high school.
The couple expects to return to
Medford tomorrow to make their
home in the Berben apartments
on Quince street.
Among guests attending the
ceremony were to be Mr. Sim
mons' two sisters. Miss Lucille
of this city and Miss Rae of
San Francisco, and his brother.

In Southern Fair
When Miss Dorothy Paley of
San Francisco, granddaughter of
the John F. Whites of this city,
visited friends in Sacramento,
Cal., recently, she had the sur
prise of her life to learn that
she had received first prize
award for her afghan entered
in the California state fair.
It all came about when a
friend. Mrs. Carl McMath, for
mer Medfordite, entered Miss
Paley's knitted spread at the
fair. They were not aware of
It's winning the prize and award
of $4 until they visited the ex
hibit and viewed the afghan
with the blue ribbon attached.
Mrs. McMath, not to be out
dona by her house guest, also
won a first prize for her woven
table cover which she entered.
Friends here of the McMaths
son-in-law and daughter, Mr.
and Mrs. Russell Brown (nee
Flora McMath) will be inter
ested to known that they were
recently transferred from Sac
ramento to Chicago, 111., where
they will make their home.
Mrs. Brown attended the local
schools when the family lived
here and later went to Oregon
State college.
Miss Paley's winning afghan
is a beautiful creation of shades
of brown, yellow and pink.
Friends will probably recall her
knitting on it during her recent
visits to her grandparents' home
here.
