The speaker declared the "real
attitude" of the GOP toward
farm legislation was exhibited a
month ago in congress where
Republican house members vot
ed 108 to 38 against an appro
priation for commodity loans.
'The Republican leaders say
nice things about the farm pro
gram to get votes from the
farmer," he said. "But when It
comes to voting for the farmer,
they don't deliver the goods."

what federal prosecutors termed
the most Important national de
fense Indictment yet returned, a
special U. S. grand Jury today
indicted the General Electric
company and the Krupp com
pany, of Essen, Germany, on
charges of conspiracy to fix
prices and restrain Interstate
and foreign commerce in hard
metal composition tools and
dies.
Named with General Electric
and Krupp were Walter M.
Stearns, of Schenectady, man
ager of trade relations and spe
cial contracts for General Elec
tric; the Carboloy company, of
Detroit; wholly-owned subsidi
ary of General Electric; W. G.
Robbins, president, and Zay Jef
feries, of Cleveland, chairman of
Corboloy.
The government charged that
the Krupp corporation, famous
for many years as Germany's
chief source of war materials,
held a veto power over the issu
ance of patent licenses to Ameri
can firms in the manufacture of
hard metal compositions used in
machine cutting tools-
on county health records since
1924 wis diagnosed today. The

"grand speech, splendidly given
before an appreciative nation",
In which his running mate had
made "a glorious start."
The president and Mrs. Roose
velt and their son. Franklin, Jr.,
aat besides a radio In the library
of their home last night and
listened to the address in which
Secretary Wallace formally ac
cepted his nomination as the
D e m o c r atic vice-presidential
candidate.
Then the chief executive dis
patched this telegram, made
public today at the temporary
White House, to his political
teammate:
Henry A. Wallace.
