NAZI SPY CHARGE
The Home of "GROCETERIA GOODNESS" ONE SHOPPING STOP FOR EVERYTHING
PACE TWO .
OP DEATH DAILY
Whington. Aug. 29. VP)
Carl Byoir, New York publicity
nun, told the Diet committee to
day that daily threat! of "death
or worie" had been made to him
as result of Representative
Patman (D-Texas) accusing him
of being a Nazi spy and propa
gandist accusation! Byoir de
nied in toto.
Byoir testified after Patman
had spent more than two houn
presenting what he said wai evi
dence that Byoir had been re
tained by Adolf Hitler to dissem
inate Nazi propaganda and, ai a
result, was unfit to hold hli
rank of lieutenant-colonel In the
U. S. army reserve-
Byoir told the committee that
in the 50 dayi since Patman first
made his charges on the house
floor there was scarcely a day
that someone did not call his of
fice and threaten him or write
letters saying "we're going to
blow you up."
He said this was directly due
to Patman's assertion that he
had no doubt that Byoir had
been retained by the German
government to set up the "great
est spy organization in the his
tory of the world."
Byoir said flatly he could not
believe Patman's statement that
the congressman had no person
al feeling against him and as
serted there was "a long history
of personal conflict" between
them.
At that point, Brien McMahon,
Byoir s counsel and former as
sistant attorney general, told the
committee the reason Patman
accused Byoir was that the lat
ter had been the most effective
opponent to piece of "pet legis
lation" from which Patman had
been receiving "a very healthy
remuneration.
Chairman Dies (D-Texas) re
buked McMahon for his remark!.

Three Tons of Fred Rapp Watermelons
For Over LABOR DAY
Home-grown melons are sweeter than California melons if you get the right
variety. j
Fred raises the Kleck'.ey Sweets the best variety for our soil and climate.
Until a few years the Kleckley Sweets gave us the reputation of growing the finest
melons in the west.
It's a shame to sell them for the prevailing low price of melons, but here they are.
