4-H BOYS, GIRLS
OFF TO FAIR SOON
Local Members to Display
Work and Enter Contests
at Annual Salem Event
Lawrence E. Francis, Jackson
county 4-H club agent, will
leave Sunday for Salem with 20
exhibits to be entered In the
annual state fair September 2 to
8 by local 4-H boys and girls.
Mr. Francis will arrange the
exhibits and make other prepa
rations for the arrival and stay
in the capital of ten Jackson
county 411 members who will
exhibit at the fair as winners of
various honors at home during
the past year. The 20 exhibits
pertain to home economics. In
addition there will be an exhibit
of sheep In the livestock division
and three boys. Bob Damon,
Merton Bradshaw and Clayton
Charley, all of the Lake Creek
4-H club, will compete in the
judging of livestock.
The ten exhibitors, who will
leave for the fair in the next few
days, are Joan Denny and Hazel
Saltmarsh, Oak Grove 4-H club,
Doris Hunslcy and Jean Brenne
sholtz, Table Hock, Gwendolyn
and Janet Charley, Lake Creek,
Virginia Ricks, Howard, Cnra
Bigham and Patty von der Hel
Icn, Antelope, and Twila Ferns,
Fern Valley. Miss von der Hcl
len will exhibit the sheep. The
home economics exhibits com
prise cooking, sewing, canning
and wood working.

Judging, bread making and style
modeling. The Charley girls will
enter as a team in the national
dairy foods demonstration con
test, winner of which will go to
Harrisburg, Pa., to represent
Oregon in the national finals.
The Jackson county exhibi
tors and contestants are going to
the state fair fresh from the
county-wide 4-H economics fair
held last Thursday and Friday
in the courthouse auditorium
here under sponsorship of the
Mcdford Business and Profes
sional Women's club.
Trophy Winner
The Lake Creek Cooking club
won the trophy put up as the
major award by the business and
professional women's group The
trophy will be In competition
each year with the name of the
winning club to be Inscribed
thereon. It will become the per
manent possession of the club
winning it three 'consecutive
years. In that event, the wom
en's club will provide another
trophy. Mrs. Claire Trueblood,
leader of the Lake Creek Cook
ing club, accepted the trophy for
the club from Mrs. Maude Sni
der, spokesman for the business
and professional women's group.
There were 120 exhibitors and
200 exhibits In the county home
economics fair. Winning cham
pionship ratings were Joan
Denny, sewing; Virginia Ricks,
cooking; Patty von der Hellcn,
canning; Ben Walch, wood work
ing; and Robert Shelby, forestry.
Other features of the fair
were the style revue, in the pre
paration and presentation of
which the Business and Profes
sional Women's club took an
active part, and a dollar dinner
contest.

Bert Thomas Hammark, a
resident of the state of Oregon
all of his life and of Mcdford
for the past tnrre years, passed
away at Phoenix Thursday aft
ernoon after a prolonged illness.
Mr. Hnmmnck was born at
Summcrville, Ore., on April 21,
1874, beins am-d ti years. He
spent most of his life in north
ern Oregon, where he followed
UiRKinR and lumbering, coming
to Medford to be near his fam
ily. The family home is at SJ0
West Bessie street.
Bert Thomas Hammark was
united In marriage to Kffic
Hearing who survives at Sum
merviile. Ore., on June 24, IBM.
Two children survive, Clyde
Hammark and Mrs. Guy Davis
both of Medford. Also five
grandchildren. There are surviv
ing two brothers and five sis
ters. Funeral services will be con
ducted from the Perl funeral
home Saturday morning at
10::i0. with Hev. H. W. Cole
man of the First Christian
church officiating. Interment
will take place in the Mcdford
l.O.O.F. cemetery.
