Wall St. Reports
New York, Aug. 27. IP)
Further war apprehension was
the principal excuse given by
brokers today for another drag
ging and uneven stock market
performance.
A few rails, coppers and spec
ialties managed to take on a
mild recovery tinge but many
leaders were a shade under wa
ter when the (inal gong sound
ed and numerous stocks held at
Monday's levels or near even
opened.
Dealings picked up at inter
vals and transfers of around
223,000 shares compared with
161,000 yesterday which was
the second smallest turnover for
a full session in 24 years.
Wall Street was still hopeful
for the British but sentiment
was confused by persistent
heavy Nazi bombing raids on
England, despite retaliatory air
raids of the R.A.F. on Germany
Individual shares were prop
ped by good business items, in
cluding earnings and dividends.
Tax problems, at the same time,
clouded the speculative scene.
