Rome Editor Warns New
Surprise Coming Minor
Victories Told.
Rome, Aug. 28. (IP) Italian
submarines operating in the At
lantic have torpedoed and dam
aged a large British oil tanker,
the Italian high command re
ported today.
British air raids on Italian po
sitions in East Africa were said
to have' killed eight colonists
and wounded about 40 persons
at Gallabat, injured several civ
ilians at Mogadisco and wound
ed 15 Askari troops at Combol
cia. The fascist high command's
communique yesterday reported
a new attack by British naval
forces on the port of Bardia,
an air raid on Tobruk, another
Libyan port, and an Italian
bombing attack on British mot
orized forces between the bor
der and Sidi Barrani, Egypt, in
which three armored cars were
said to have been destroyed.
The two destroyers which un
dertook the attack on Bardia
Saturday night were driven off
by bombing planes, the high
command said, while the Tob
ruk raid caused "extremely
small" damage and wounded
five persons.
While Virglnlo Gayda. author
itative editor writing in La Voce
D'ltalla, warned Britain in ob
scure terms of "some new sur
prise" she will have to face in
"not many more days," author
ities reported the latest British
direct attack on Italy had
caused little damage.
Bombing planes which attack
ed Piedmont and Ombardy, in
the north, on Saturday night
were said to have dropped very
few bombs, which killed two
persons. The planes were re
ported put to flight by Italian
fighters.
(The Swiss government filed
a new and "energetic" protest
at London against the British
raiders' violation of Swiss ter
ritory). Fascist officials declined com
ment on reports from abroad
that Italy Is massing troops on
the Greek frontier in order to
enforce territorial demands in
behalf of Italian-annex Albania.
Italian-Greek tension remained
high.

NO BAD FAITH BY
E
Eugene, Ore., Aug. 26 tP)
There has been no bad faith in
the Waterfront Employers' asso
ciation's negotiations for a new
contract with the CIO Interna
tional Longshoemen's and ware
housemen's union, Arbiter
Wayne L. Morse ruled Saturday.
Delays in collective bargain
ing have been no more the fault
of the employers than of the
unions, Morse declared.
"The union failed to sustain
its burden of proof in support of
its charges that the employers
have acted in bad faith," he ad
ded. The union accused the associ
ation of violating the extension
agreement of September 28,
1939, which provided that the
parties should resume negotia
tions in good faith with the
maritime labor board as media

Jane Withers As
Bowery Spitfire
Combining drama with hilar
ious comedy, "Girl from Ave
nue A" has lots of entertain
ment In the typical Jane With
ers style. The picture opened
yesterday at the Craterian Thea
tre, feature attraction on a pro
gram that includes one of the
always delightful Walt Disney
cartoons and a two-reel Tech
nicolor subject about Buffalo
Bill Cody.
In "The Girl From Avenue
A" Jane portrays a hungry and
homeless Bowery spitfire, tak
en to the Park Avenue home
of Kent Taylor, a society au
thor, in order that he may study
her characteristics and speech
for a play h is writing. Baffled
by the splendor of her new sur
roundings, Jano attempts, nev
ertheless, to be a lady and the
result is highly entertaining.
One of the best Disney car
toons shown here for some time
has Mickey Mouse (seems good
to see Mickey again), Donald
and Goofy featured In "Tugboat
Mickey" with Mickey as the
Captain of a tugboat and Don
ald and Goofy as his crew.
Among the many hilarious ad
ventures that befall the trio Is
a rescue of a sinking ship. When
It's all over, the main casualty
Is the radio of the tugboat,
which the trio drown.
"Pony Express Days" Is one
of the finest two reelers ever
seen here. This subject, also on
Ihe Craterian program, not only
has much exciting action depict
ing adventures of Buffalo Bill,
but also has some of the most
spectacularly beautiful scenery
ever screencde. Filmed all In
Technicolor. It is well worth
seeing.
