A complete program of fun
and frolic was announced today
for the annual KnlgMs of Co
lumbus district picnic at the
Union Creek campground of the
Rogue River national forest Sunday.
A special feature this year will
be the coronation of the fcjueen
of the Cascades who will be
chosen by a novel method at the
picnic. The coronation is sched
uled for 1 p. m.
Throughout the afternoon
there will be sports for children,
the awarding of prizes to the
oldest Knight, the girl with the
reddest hair, youngest baby,
etc., a Softball game and miscel
laneous entertainment.
Start at 10: IS A. M.
The festivities will open at
10:13 a. m., with a patriotic
flag-raising ceremony. At 10:30
an open air mass will be cele
brated by the Rev. Father Wil
liam Coughlin of Bend. The
Rev. Father J. M. Sheridan of
Marshfield, state chaplain, was
to have celebrated the mass, but
he is ill.
The picnic lunch will be
served at 12, noon. Coffee,
cream, sugar and ice cream will
be provided by the participating
councils. The picnic will be at
tended by Knights of Columbus,
their families and friends of
Medford, Bend, Klamath Falls
and Lakevlew. An attendance
of 1,000 is expected. The picnic
area is situated on Crater Lake
highway opposite the Union
. Creek ranger station.
DRUNKEN DRIVER
IS FINED, JAILED
Albert B. Cooper of Grants
Pass entered a plea of guilty to
driving while intoxicated and
was sentenced yesterday to 30
days in the county Jail, fined
$100 and costs, and his driver's
license revoked for one year by
Justice of the Peace Coleman.
Cooper, Wednesday morning,
hit the auto driven by Charity
Hart of Central Point head-on,
resulting In facial injuries to
Mary Lou Mann, a passenger In
the Hart car. Miss Hart escaped
with minor hurts.
Robert A. Colburn, charged
with operating a car without an
operator's license was assessed
$2.30 and costs.

Line Medina, the Peruvian girl who Is claimed io have' given
birth to a son at the age of five, will be brought io Chicago next
month for examination by a medical commission, according to
Attorney Richard S. Kaplan. Kaplan released this picture, which
he said shows the young mother and her IS months old child.
PASSES BAR QUIZ
Howard M. Dietrich, Central
Point high school graduate and
son Of Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Diet
rich of Route 4, was among the
law students who passed their
bar examinations in Salem July
9 and 10, his parents were noti
fied today. Of the 120 who took
the examinations, 74 passed.
Mr. Dietrich, who now is asso
ciated with an accounting firm
in Portland, was graduated from
Central Point hixh school in
1928 and from the University of
Oregon In 1933. He studied law
at the Northwest Law school in
Portland.
TAKEN BY DEATH
James W. (Dick) Sllnger, 71,
well known resident of Jackson
county where he has resided for
the past 52 years, passed away
at his home, 23 Washington St.,
Wednesday.
He was born at Bethany, Mo.,
Nov. 24, 1868. Coming here
from Ventura, Calif., in 1888 at
the age of 20, he settled in the
Lake Creek district where he
engaged in stock raising. Six
years later he was united In
marriage to Anna Farlow who
survives.
The family moved to Med
ford 29 years ago where they
have since resided, and for the
last 6 years, Mr. Slinger has
been employed at the Craterian
Theatre.
Besides his wife, he leaves
three children, Faye Danlelson
and Millie Webster of Chlco.
Calif, and Bob Sllnger of Med
ford. Also one sister and one
brother, Mollie Hefner and
Frank Slinger of Bethany, Mo.
Although Mr. Slinger had
been In failing health for sev
eral months, his death was not
expected at this time.
Funeral services will be held
at the Conger chapel at 2:30
p.m., Friday with the Rev. D.
E. Millard officiating. Interment
will be in the Medford I.O.O.F.
cemetery.
