ANNUAL 4-H FAIR
AT COURT HOUSI
ON AUGUST 22-23
County Club Agent Francis
Announces Final Plans for
Exhibits and Contests
Mountain Victim Rescued
Final plans are being made
for the county 4-H home eco
nomics fair which will be held
in the courthouse auditorium,
open to the public, August 22
and 23, L. E. Francis, county
club agent, (aid today. Unusu
ally active interest, said Mr
Francis, Is being evidenced by
club members and leaders in
the fair, which provides classes
for all of the divisions of cook
ing, sewing, canning, homemak
ing, room improvement. For
estry and woodworking exhibits
are also included in the fair.
Premiums are being offered
for ten places in each class and
It is anticipated that there will
be at least ISO club members
participating and more than 200
exhibits entered.
The fair this year is being
sponsored for the first time by
the Business and Professional
Women's club of Mcdford, and
one of the highlights of the fair
will be the trophy which Is being
presented by the club as an
award for the outstanding 4-H
home economics club that par
ticipates in the fair. The award
will be made on the following
basis: Percent exhibiting 200
points, exhibit scores 100 points,
Judging 100 points, demonstra
tion 100 points.
In addition to the regular
classes there will be special con
tests in cooking, clothing and
canning judging, style revue,
bread baking and dollar dinner.
These various activities offer the
club members additional oppor
tunity to participate In activ
ities in connection with their
projects. Each contest has as
top award a trip to the state fair
where the teams and Individuals
will represent Jackson county
in statewide contests.
Judges for the 4-H home eco
nomics fair will be Miss Helen
Cowgill, assistant state club
leader, who will Judge all ex
hibits, the ctyle revue, the dem
onstrations and bread baking
contest; and Mrs. Kenneth Fitz
gerald, who will act as Judge of
the dollar dinner contest.

Jr., of Massachusetts, national
chairman, and delivers his ad
dress of acceptance.
The day's festivities will be
gin at 10 a. m. with a four-hour
entertainment in Callaway park,
site of the acceptance.
Arrive at Noon.
The nominee and his party
will arrive at noon by special
train from Rushville, Ind. He
is due to reach Rushville Thurs
day night and remain there un
til Saturday morning. He and
Mrs. Willki-; will visit her moth
er, Mrs. Cora Wilk, and he will
probably visit his five farms in
Rush county.
After Willkie's arrival here
he will be greeted by members
of the Summit American Legion
post No. 19 of Akron, .O., of
which he was once commander.
Then th nominee's party will
motor to the high school for a
brief program. Mayor George
M. Bonham will welcome Will
kie and introduce Senator James
J. Davis of Pennsylvania, for
mer Elwood city clerk. Davis
will introduce the nominee.
While the Willkie party pro
ceeds to the park, members of
the state ticket will be intro
duced there by Arch N. Bob
bitt, Indiana GO P. chairman.
Hallsck to Preside.
As Willkio reaches the speak
ers' platform at 3 p. m a band
will play "Back Home Again in
Indiana."
Rep. Charles A. Halleek of
Rensselaer, Ind., who nominat
ed Willkie at the national con
vention, will preside. After Dr.

Sen. Rufus Holman, R., Ore.,
today wired Secretary of State
Earl Snell that the federal gov
ernment would establish an air
depot somewhere in the north
west east of the Cascades.
Snell presented the telegram
to the board of control, the in
dividual members of which
pledged their personal aid in
attempting to get the base for
eastern Oregon.
At the present time California
has four air bases, Washington
has two and Oregon has none.
Holman'i telegram did not say
how much would be spent on the
base but some of the board mem
bers said that they had heard
the depot would comprise pur
suit, bomber, supply and labora
tory facilities.
