Woman Puts in 50th Year
At Huckleberry City Camp
Mrs. Alice Hamilton of Klamath Falli Is picking berries at
Huckleberry mountain for the 50th consecutive year. She is
camped at Huckleberry City in the Rogue River national forest
with her brother, Lee Harrington.

of June, picking out an advan
tageous site, staking off the best
berry patch and otherwise get
ting the jump on the pickers
who wait until it's time for the
berries to ripen.
How many berries Mrs. Ham
ilton has picked this year no
one in the forest service would
estimate. She sells the berries
to the Union Creek resort and
to stores in Klamath Falls, mak
ing deliveries in her pickup
truck.
Her brother doesn't care much
about picking berries; so he
spends most of his time fishing.
Mrs. Hamilton's camp was
described by forest headquar
ters as being exceedingly well
kept. During the rest of the
year Mrs. Hamilton operates a
boarding house in Klamath
Falls; in the summer a friend
takes charge of the business so
that Mrs. Hamilton might take
her annual pilgrimage to Huck
leberry mountain.
After the day's picking, Mrs.
Hamilton sits around her camp
and plays pinochle or pitches
horseshoes with her brother and
other campers. She packs a .22
rifle wherever she goes in the
forest.
A skilled hunter, Mrs. Ham
ilton follows her berry picking
with hunting in the fail, and
she has the reputation of never
failing to get the limit bag of
deer. She is part Indian and
so she is permitted to hunt on
the Klamath reservation with
out a license, but usually she
procures a license anyway so
that she might hunt wherever
she chooses.
No one in the forest service
would venture a guess as to her
age, and Mrs. Hamilton doesn't
tell.

At Camp Meeting
For Tindley Duo
A special feature is scheduled
tonight at the indoor camp meet
ing at the Medford Church of
the Nazarene, Holly at First St.
In answer to the desire of many
to hear Professor and Mrs. Elbert
T. Tindley sing more than can
be worked in during the nightly
services, the church has ar
ranged an extra 15-minute pe
riod of singing by them, begin
ning at 7:30. Professor Tindley
is a vocal student of Eugene
D'Avengnue, of New York city.
Mrs. Tindley, a coloratura so
prano, took her training in the
Pittsburgh musical institute in
Pittsburgh University.
The ministry of Dr. T. W. Wtl
lingham, evangelist for the se
ries, is meeting with high com
mendation by those who hear
him nightly.
There will be services also Fri
day and Saturday nights of this
week at 7:45. The public is invited.

A. White, commander of the
national guard's 41st division,
revealed today he has "every
evidence" that his unit, com
prised of guardsmen from Ore
gon. Washington, Idaho, Mon
tant and Wyoming, will be mob
ilized. "In view of scores of tele
grams I have received, and as
the result of trips to Washing
ton D. C, I know the 41st is
going to be mobilized." Gen
eral White said in an inter
view. However, he added, 41st di
vision troops, now being con
centrated here for fourth army
maneuvers, will return to their
home stations August 24 "be
cause the mobilization order
will not come during the pres
ent encampment."
The 41st was one of the di
visions listed in President
Roosevelt's recent mobilization
plans.
As more than 5.000 swelter
ing troops rolled in today by
truck and train, principally
from Idaho and Montana, Gen
eral white pointed out that for
the first time since world war
days "guardsmen are not 'com
ing in for a picnic."
Warsaw has a population of
about 1.800.000. compared to
1,400,000 at the beginning of the
