large group at a shower party Friday
honoring Mrs. Louis Armstrong ot
Sioux City, Iowa, who la spending
an extended period here with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Smith. The
party was given at Mrs. McDonough's

Mrs. I. H. Taylor returned Fri
day from Orandvlew, Wash., where
she hsd spent the week aa a guest
of her daughter, Mrs. Jack Cleaves.

home after spending a short time

was a guest for a short time last

cousin, Miss Lola Matheny.
An overnight camping trip to
Beaver Sulphur foreat park was the
privilege of the Beaver Creek 4-H
forestry club girls one evening; last
week when they accompanied their
leader, Mrs. Lee Port, on the trip. The
youngsters enjoyed three meals while
on their outing. This week tha group
went on a motor Jaunt through the
lorests, visiting fire guards Herbert
Pennlnga and John Byrne, and col
lecting specimen, as well ss checking
on various trees. Sunday, Mrs. Port
attended a plcnlo of tha county 4-H
picnic committee held at McKee
Bridge. At that time plans were made
for a county wide 4-H picnic on tha
grounds August 0th.
Mr. and Mrs. Wade Cottrell and
family, of Santa Monica, Cal, were
guests for a snort time this week at
the borne of Mr, Cottrell's mother,
Mrs. C. U. Thomas, near Ruchi They
enjoyed sn overnight trip to Crater
Lake while here.

chairman for the Fourth of July

ber. Mrs. W. A. Martin, who underwent
a major operation at Ashland Com
munity hospital Saturday, is report-
ad recovering satisfactorily.

City for a week-end vacation.

The Society of Friends (Quakers)
announced today formation of a
national volunteer service for
young men and women of all
faiths and denominations whose
religious beliefs prevent them
from participation in war.
Members will give a year of
civilian service to their country
in such fields as reclamation of
forests and impoverished farm
lands In cooperation with the
government, welfare, and over
seas work with Friends' units
aiding war refugees.
