Cincinnati, July 1
Five persona died and at least
two others were curned severely
ai fire early today trapped 30
resident! and employes on the
third floor of the Holy Family
Home, a branch of St. Frances
hospital.
The dead were:
Mary Rose Watklns. 42; Mary
Theders, 57; Minnie Brandhoff.
87; Regina Nickamp, 45. and
Rosaline Bums, 41, all residents.
Injured were Theresa Bukart,
78, and Jennie Kenster, also
residents.
Flames starting In the base
ment laundry cut off escape by
stairways, firemen said.
Many occupants of the build
ing were led to safety down fire
escapes. Others were rescued by
volunters and firemen through
windows.
Those fatally burned were
found huddled in corners. One
victim, Mary Theders, was
found in the linen closet which
she apparently entered in the
belief she had reached an out
side door.
"One went back to get her
clothes and that was the last we
saw of her," a hospital attache
said.
Arthur Jahn, 29, an engineer,
said he and five other persons
were in the basement of the
building when the fire was dis
covered.
Police Maj. Elmer O'Neil saw
the blaze as he was passing In
an automobile and said he heard
persons shouting "tave me."

there hase Been conflicting re
ports, was confirmed today by
an -American passenger on the
Greek liner Nea Hellas which
arrived from Lisbon, Portugal.

by an airplane-laid magnetic
mine in the harbor of La Ro
chelle, France, June 27.

American airplanes, sank In 20
minutes, Weill said, while the I

the Federated church here from
Sunday to Wednesday, inclu
sive, it was announced today by
the Rev. C. R. Luther, pastor.
Mr. Billester will lecture and
show motion pictures which he
took in Germany, Poland, Lat
via, Sweden and England, some
of the films being in natural
color. Other pictures will show
the conquest of Danzig and Po
land and the taking of Belgium,
Holland and France.
Mr. Billester is an ordained
minister. He was born in Rus
sia, but came to America when
he was a small boy. He returned
to his native country as a mis
sionary in 1924. Since then he
has travelled extensively.
Hops Need Rain

gon producers cried for rain to
day to stave off damage in the
hop yards. Ho loss has been re
ported, but market authorities
said serious consequences might
develnn unless rain rame in two
weeks. The crop still is "in the
making and much will depend
