FAMILY HIT BY RRE
N NEED OF CLOTHING
AND BEDDING, IS WORD
A family of eight, whose
house and most of their pos
sessions were destroyed by fire
last week, are sorely in need
of clothing for a six-year-old
boy, a pair of size 8 shoes for
a lad of 16, bedding and a mat
tress, and anybody desiring to
aid the family is asked to con
tact Capt. Charles K. Cox at
Salvation Army headquarters,
238 North Bartlett street.
The four other children in the
family have been "fairly well
taken care of" by neighbors and
the Red Cross, Capt. Cox ex
plained. He added that the 18-year-old
boy could use various
articles of clothing, in addition
to the shoes, and that the
mother of the family would ap
preciate some fruit jars.
The family, Capt. Cox said,
managed to save only their
washing machine and a few
other bits of furniture in the
fire, but that they believed they
could get along all right with
the .clothing for the two boys
and the bedding and mattress.
The family plans to move into
a small cabin this week. Al
though not employed at pres
ent, the father has a promise of
a job, Capt. Cox stated, and
added that the Salvation Army
would accept donations for the
family.

KIWAN1ANS VISIT
A-ONE BREWERY
N PUNT TOURS
Kiwanlans initiated a new
program of familiarizing them
selves with local industries last
night when they met at the
local plant of the A-One Brew
ing company as guests ot S. A.
Kroschel, manager. Adolph Ben
der Jr., plant brewrnaster, acted
as guide for the party and ex
plained the Intricate processing
of the brew.
The visitors were pariitutaiiy
impressed with the complete- j
ness of the equipment and the'
particular care given to sanita
tion of the brewing tanks and
bottling equipment in order to
maintain and insure the purity
of the finished product.
Blending of the hops, malt,
and yeast and effects of the
various ingredients on the fin
ished product were discussed as
technical problems by the brew-
master as he initiated the local
service club members into some
of the mysteries surrounding
production of c uniform pro
duct. Although the local brewery
is a large consumer of southern
Oregon hops, the plant also uses
hops grown in other sections of
Oregon and Washington. A-One
brew is made with Czecho-Slo-vakian
hops which account for
its unique bouquet and flavor.
Following the tour of the
plant, the Kiwanians and their
guests were regaled with a
"dutch lunch" supplemented
with samples of A-One brew
for those who cared to partake.
The local service club has in
itiated this program of visiting
local plants with the idea of
encouraging home grown indus
try and payrolls by familiariz
ing themselves with the prob
lems and the products of local
industry. Response to the pro
gram has been enthusiastic and
it is anticipated that the Kt
wanian support may lend mater
ial aid to promotion of the use
of local products which con
tribute so heavily to local pay
rolls and so build the future
of southern Oregon.
