LIGHT RAINS MAKE
FOREST CENTERS
E
Brighten Foliage, Improve
Roads, Survey Shows
Fire Caution Is Urged
Tht following recreational
bulletin wai issued today by
Rogue River national forest
headquarters:
"The recent light rains have
brightened up the forest foliage
and Improved the roads.
"Fishing conditions continue
to be good. At Hyatt lake, bass
are being taken with frogs as
bait At Lake of the Woods
good catches of bass are being
made with spinner and fly com
binations, and of perch with
worms. At Fish lake, the only
really good catches are being
made with live bait which is
caught around the lake; still
fishing Is the best, with trolling
fair.
"At Fourmile lake there has
been very good trolling for rain
bow, flashers with troutorinos
and also cluster eggs bringing
results. Silversldea are being
taken by still fishing. Johnson
creek above Johnson prairie Is
yielding good catches with
grasshoppers, but It is extreme
ly brushy. The north fork of
Little Butte creek has been fair.
At Rocky Point on Klamath
lake some large rainbow are
being caught by trolling.
"Limit catches are being
taken in Big Butte near Butte
Falls; the middle fork of Rogue
river Is poor and the south fork
fair. In the Union Creek dis
trict, many good catches of
rainbow and eastern brook trout
are being made. The streams
producing the best catches In
that vicinity are Mulr, Bybee,
Crater, Foster, National, Cope
land and Wizard creeks. The
north fork of the Rogue river
from Natural Bridge to Ham
aker guard station is at its peak
for flv fishing. For eastern
brook trout in these streams thej
best results are being obtained
with bait, such as grasshoppers,
worms and eggs. Fair catches
with bait are being made in
both the main river and the
smaller streams In the Apple
gate district but flies are bring
ing no luck there.
Trails Ready
"In the Rogue river outside
the national forest the best steel
head catches are being made
with grizzly and professor flies.
A few salmon are being caught
in the vicinity of Rogue Elk
and Rogue River lodge, and ex
cellent catches of trout are re
ported. The boat trips In the
vicinity of Trail offer attractive
sport now.
"The trails to both Seven
lakes and Sky lakes on the
Cascade divide are ready for
travel. Good catches are being
reported at the Seven lakes,
fair ones at Sky lakes. There
are many mosquitoes there at
this time of year.
Loop Read Open
"The Ashland loop road Is
now open but is still rather
rough as grading has not been
completed. This road and the
ones to Hershberger mountain
and Abbott butte on the Ump
qua divide are probably the
most beautiful In the forest now,
because of the large numbers
of flowers in full bloom at these
higher elevations. All forest
camps are available for use
with the exception of the one
at Wrangle gap on the Ash
land loop road, which is tem
porarily occupied by a CCC
crew which Is working on the
road.
"During the past week there
have been three fires on the
Rogue River national forest,
started by campfires which had
been left unextinguished. For
tunately they were confined to
small areas. As the ground cover
becomes drier such carelessness
becomes more mid more liable
to cause disastrous losses; so
please be careful In the forest
camps that they may be left
for future enjoyment."

BOWMAN FREED OF
'BEING' BLAME
New York, June 21. 0P
Ford Frirk, president of the
National League, today ab
solved St. Louis Pitcher Bob
Bowman of any blame in con
nection with the "beaning" of
Joe Mcdwick Brooklyn Dodger
outfielder, Tuesday.
Frick said his investigation
revealed no evidence of intent
to injure Mcdwick on the part
of the young Cardinal pitcher
and that the charges against
Bowman therefore were dis
missed. The Brooklyn club, through
President Larry Macphail, had
charged formally that Bowman
"deliberately" and "with pre
meditation" bcaned Mcdwick.

Stock, market dealings almost
came to a halt today, and prices
shifted narrowly, as many
traders remained inactive pend
ing publication of the German
French armistice details.
Transfers approximated 300,
000 shares. Gains and losses of
fractions were pretty evenly
split at the close.
Steels were aided by another
boost in the scrap metal. Mo
tors kept their balance along
with a handful of specialties,
rails, motors and utilities.
