Paris,' June 18. (Delayed

phone to Berlin) UP) Paris Is
beginning a new life under Ger
man occupation as public ser
vices resume operation and some
phases of the fallen capital's
daily activity return to normal.
Current opinion as expressed
now is strong'y rightist, and
bitter against former Premier
Paul Reynaud. who resigned
Sunday as the government pre
pared to seek a peace, and
against Edouard Daladier, who
was premier when France de
clared war against Germany.
The two principal organs of
opinion allowed to resume pub
lication are rightist newspaper
Le Matin and the semi-fascist
Victorie.
Ex-Residents Mow Rule.
Three German officials who
knew Paris before the war are
now in important posts of the
occupying forces. They are
Captain Nicholaus Von Grote,
who was Paris director of DNB,
the German news service Otto
Abetz. husband of a French
woman, who was expelled as a
Nazi agent by the French, June
29, 1939; and ' Dr. Achenbach,
secretary of the German em
bassy in Paris.
Postal services were restored
today in the Paris department
of Seine and it was announced
that the Comedie Francaise, the
famous state theater, will re
sume Saturday.
Uniformed postmen delivered
the first mail Parisians have
received In many days. Out
going mall services were again
functioning and the local tele
phone never was interrupted
by the occupation.
Telegraph facilities, at least
within the area occupied by
Germany, were expected to re
open shortly.

Slow-Up in Defense Feared

commission were reported to
day to have told the senate

sulting testimony was that the
defense commission feared that

evacuees have caused the mu
nicipality much concern, since
many cases of dog bites have
been reported. The Pasteur in
stitute, which produces protec
tive serums, has functioned
through the occupation as have
government and private hos
pitals. The chamber of commerce
called upon all merchants to
reopen their stores and restau
rants and officials told the pub
lie that food supplies were as
sured. Log Roller Drowns.
Hood River, Ore., June 20.
(P) Roger Thomas, 25, log roll
er, drowned in the Jaymar mill
dam yesterday after falling from
a log. The body was recover
ed. Survivors include the wid
ow and two children.

The committee amended a bill
last week to fix the profit limi
tations for both at 7 percent.
Senator Holt (D., W. Va.) told
reporters when he came out of
the closed committee meeting
that he and other members were
"determined to get at the bot
tom" of what he described as
an effort to obtain large pro
fits on defense construction
work.
The chairman made public
the following table which he
said indicated the operating net
profit made by 10 aircraft and
ship concerns on all of their
business in 1938 and 1939:
